1En dit het gebeur ná die dood van Moses, die kneg van die HERE, dat die HERE vir Josua, die seun van Nun, die dienaar van Moses, gesê het:וַיְהִ֗י אַחֲרֵ֛י מ֥וֹת מֹשֶׁ֖ה עֶ֣בֶד יְהוָ֑ה וַיֹּ֤אמֶר יְהוָה֙ אֶל־יְהוֹשֻׁ֣עַ בִּן־נ֔וּן מְשָׁרֵ֥ת מֹשֶׁ֖ה לֵאמֹֽר׃Now after the death of His servant Moses, the LORD spoke to Joshua son of Nun, Moses’ assistant, saying,2“Moses, My kneg, is dood. Staan nou op, trek deur hierdie Jordaan, jy en hierdie hele volk, na die land wat Ek aan hulle gee, aan die Israeliete.aLetterlik: seuns van Israel.מֹשֶׁ֥ה עַבְדִּ֖י מֵ֑ת וְעַתָּה֩ ק֨וּם עֲבֹ֜ר אֶת־הַיַּרְדֵּ֣ן הַזֶּ֗ה אַתָּה֙ וְכָל־הָעָ֣ם הַזֶּ֔ה אֶל־הָאָ֕רֶץ אֲשֶׁ֧ר אָנֹכִ֛י נֹתֵ֥ן לָהֶ֖ם לִבְנֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃“Moses My servant is dead. Now therefore arise, you and all these people, and cross over the Jordan into the land that I am giving to the children of Israel.3Elke plek waarop die sool van julle voet trap, het Ek aan julle gegee, soos Ek vir Moses gesê het.כָּל־מָק֗וֹם אֲשֶׁ֨ר תִּדְרֹ֧ךְ כַּֽף־רַגְלְכֶ֛ם בּ֖וֹ לָכֶ֣ם נְתַתִּ֑יו כַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר דִּבַּ֖רְתִּי אֶל־מֹשֶֽׁה׃I have given you every place where the sole of your foot will tread, just as I promised to Moses.4Van die woestyn en hierdie Libanon af tot by die groot rivier, die rivier Eufraat, die hele land van die Hetiete, en tot by die groot see, waar die son ingaan, sal julle grondgebied wees.aLetterlik: die ingang van die son.מֵהַמִּדְבָּר֩ וְהַלְּבָנ֨וֹן הַזֶּ֜ה וְֽעַד־הַנָּהָ֧ר הַגָּד֣וֹל נְהַר־פְּרָ֗ת כֹּ֚ל אֶ֣רֶץ הַֽחִתִּ֔ים וְעַד־הַיָּ֥ם הַגָּד֖וֹל מְב֣וֹא הַשָּׁ֑מֶשׁ יִֽהְיֶ֖ה גְּבוּלְכֶֽם׃Your territory shall extend from the wilderness and Lebanon to the great River Euphrates—all the land of the Hittites—and west as far as the Great Sea.5Niemand sal voor jou standhou al die dae van jou lewe nie. Soos Ek met Moses was, sal Ek met jou wees. Ek sal jou nie laat vaar nie en jou nie verlaat nie.לֹֽא־יִתְיַצֵּ֥ב אִישׁ֙ לְפָנֶ֔יךָ כֹּ֖ל יְמֵ֣י חַיֶּ֑יךָ כַּֽאֲשֶׁ֨ר הָיִ֤יתִי עִם־מֹשֶׁה֙ אֶהְיֶ֣ה עִמָּ֔ךְ לֹ֥א אַרְפְּךָ֖ וְלֹ֥א אֶעֶזְבֶֽךָּ׃No one shall stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so will I be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you.6Wees sterk en moedig, want jy sal hierdie volk die land laat erf wat Ek aan hulle vaders gesweer het om aan hulle te gee.חֲזַ֖ק וֶאֱמָ֑ץ כִּ֣י אַתָּ֗ה תַּנְחִיל֙ אֶת־הָעָ֣ם הַזֶּ֔ה אֶת־הָאָ֕רֶץ אֲשֶׁר־נִשְׁבַּ֥עְתִּי לַאֲבוֹתָ֖ם לָתֵ֥ת לָהֶֽם׃Be strong and courageous, for you shall give these people the inheritance of the land that I swore to their fathers I would give them.7Wees net sterk en baie moedig, om te bewaar en te doen volgens die hele wet wat my dienaar Moses jou beveel het. Moenie daarvan afwyk na regs of na links nie, sodat jy sukses kan hê oral waar jy gaan.aOf: sodat jy verstandig kan handel.רַק֩ חֲזַ֨ק וֶֽאֱמַ֜ץ מְאֹ֗ד לִשְׁמֹ֤ר לַעֲשׂוֹת֙ כְּכָל־הַתּוֹרָ֗ה אֲשֶׁ֤ר צִוְּךָ֙ מֹשֶׁ֣ה עַבְדִּ֔י אַל־תָּס֥וּר מִמֶּ֖נּוּ יָמִ֣ין וּשְׂמֹ֑אול לְמַ֣עַן תַּשְׂכִּ֔יל בְּכֹ֖ל אֲשֶׁ֥ר תֵּלֵֽךְ׃Above all, be strong and very courageous. Be careful to observe all the law that My servant Moses commanded you. Do not turn from it to the right or to the left, so that you may prosper wherever you go.8Hierdie boek van die wet moet nie van jou mond af wyk nie, maar jy moet daaroor nadink dag en nag, sodat jy sal waak om te doen volgens alles wat daarin geskrywe is; want dan sal jy jou weë laat slaag, en dan sal jy sukses hê.aLetterlik: daaroor prewel.לֹֽא־יָמ֡וּשׁ סֵפֶר֩ הַתּוֹרָ֨ה הַזֶּ֜ה מִפִּ֗יךָ וְהָגִ֤יתָ בּוֹ֙ יוֹמָ֣ם וָלַ֔יְלָה לְמַ֨עַן֙ תִּשְׁמֹ֣ר לַעֲשׂ֔וֹת כְּכָל־הַכָּת֖וּב בּ֑וֹ כִּי־אָ֛ז תַּצְלִ֥יחַ אֶת־דְּרָכֶ֖ךָ וְאָ֥ז תַּשְׂכִּֽיל׃This Book of the Law must not depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. For then you will prosper and succeed in all you do.9Het Ek jou nie beveel nie? Wees sterk en moedig! Moenie skrik nie en moenie bang word nie, want die HERE jou God is met jou oral waar jy gaan.”הֲל֤וֹא צִוִּיתִ֨יךָ֙ חֲזַ֣ק וֶאֱמָ֔ץ אַֽל־תַּעֲרֹ֖ץ וְאַל־תֵּחָ֑ת כִּ֤י עִמְּךָ֙ יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֶ֔יךָ בְּכֹ֖ל אֲשֶׁ֥ר תֵּלֵֽךְ׃ פHave I not commanded you to be strong and courageous? Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”
10Toe het Josua die amptenare van die volk beveel en gesê:וַיְצַ֣ו יְהוֹשֻׁ֔עַ אֶת־שֹׁטְרֵ֥י הָעָ֖ם לֵאמֹֽר׃Then Joshua commanded the officers of the people:11“Gaan deur die middel van die kamp en beveel die volk en sê: ‘Maak kos vir julle gereed, want oor nog drie dae gaan julle oor hierdie Jordaan, om in te gaan om die land in besit te neem wat die HERE julle God aan julle gee om in besit te neem.’”עִבְר֣וּ׀ בְּקֶ֣רֶב הַֽמַּחֲנֶ֗ה וְצַוּ֤וּ אֶת־הָעָם֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר הָכִ֥ינוּ לָכֶ֖ם צֵידָ֑ה כִּ֞י בְּע֣וֹד׀ שְׁלֹ֣שֶׁת יָמִ֗ים אַתֶּם֙ עֹֽבְרִים֙ אֶת־הַיַּרְדֵּ֣ן הַזֶּ֔ה לָבוֹא֙ לָרֶ֣שֶׁת אֶת־הָאָ֔רֶץ אֲשֶׁר֙ יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹֽהֵיכֶ֔ם נֹתֵ֥ן לָכֶ֖ם לְרִשְׁתָּֽהּ׃ ס“Go through the camp and tell the people, ‘Prepare your provisions, for within three days you will cross the Jordan to go in and take possession of the land that the LORD your God is giving you to possess.’”
12En aan die Rubeniete en die Gadiete en die halwe stam van Manasse het Josua gesê:וְלָרֽאוּבֵנִי֙ וְלַגָּדִ֔י וְלַחֲצִ֖י שֵׁ֣בֶט הַֽמְנַשֶּׁ֑ה אָמַ֥ר יְהוֹשֻׁ֖עַ לֵאמֹֽר׃But to the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh, Joshua said,13“Onthou die woord wat Moses, die kneg van die HERE, julle beveel het toe hy gesê het: ‘Die HERE julle God gee julle rus en Hy sal julle hierdie land gee.’זָכוֹר֙ אֶת־הַדָּבָ֔ר אֲשֶׁ֨ר צִוָּ֥ה אֶתְכֶ֛ם מֹשֶׁ֥ה עֶֽבֶד־יְהוָ֖ה לֵאמֹ֑ר יְהוָ֤ה אֱלֹהֵיכֶם֙ מֵנִ֣יחַ לָכֶ֔ם וְנָתַ֥ן לָכֶ֖ם אֶת־הָאָ֥רֶץ הַזֹּֽאת׃“Remember what Moses the servant of the LORD commanded you when he said, ‘The LORD your God will give you rest, and He will give you this land.’14Julle vroue, julle kinders en julle vee moet bly in die land wat Moses julle gegee het oorkant die Jordaan; maar julle, al die helde van krag, moet gewapend voor julle broers uit oortrek en hulle help,aOf: in slagorde.נְשֵׁיכֶ֣ם טַפְּכֶם֮ וּמִקְנֵיכֶם֒ יֵשְׁב֕וּ בָּאָ֕רֶץ אֲשֶׁ֨ר נָתַ֥ן לָכֶ֛ם מֹשֶׁ֖ה בְּעֵ֣בֶר הַיַּרְדֵּ֑ן וְאַתֶּם֩ תַּעַבְר֨וּ חֲמֻשִׁ֜ים לִפְנֵ֣י אֲחֵיכֶ֗ם כֹּ֚ל גִּבּוֹרֵ֣י הַחַ֔יִל וַעֲזַרְתֶּ֖ם אוֹתָֽם׃Your wives, your young children, and your livestock may remain in the land that Moses gave you on this side of the Jordan. But all your mighty men of valor must be armed for battle to cross over ahead of your brothers and help them,15totdat die HERE aan julle broers rus gee soos aan julle, en hulle ook die land in besit neem wat die HERE julle God aan hulle gee. Dan sal julle terugkeer na die land van julle besitting en dit in besit neem, wat Moses, die kneg van die HERE, aan julle gegee het oorkant die Jordaan, na die sonsopgang.”aLetterlik: die opgang van die son.עַ֠ד אֲשֶׁר־יָנִ֨יחַ יְהוָ֥ה׀ לַֽאֲחֵיכֶם֮ כָּכֶם֒ וְיָרְשׁ֣וּ גַם־הֵ֔מָּה אֶת־הָאָ֕רֶץ אֲשֶׁר־יְהוָ֥ה אֱלֹֽהֵיכֶ֖ם נֹתֵ֣ן לָהֶ֑ם וְשַׁבְתֶּ֞ם לְאֶ֤רֶץ יְרֻשַּׁתְכֶם֙ וִֽירִשְׁתֶּ֣ם אוֹתָ֔הּ אֲשֶׁ֣ר׀ נָתַ֣ן לָכֶ֗ם מֹשֶׁה֙ עֶ֣בֶד יְהוָ֔ה בְּעֵ֥בֶר הַיַּרְדֵּ֖ן מִזְרַ֥ח הַשָּֽׁמֶשׁ׃until the LORD gives them rest as He has done for you, and your brothers also possess the land that the LORD your God is giving them. Then you may return to the land of your inheritance and take possession of that which Moses the servant of the LORD gave you on the east side of the Jordan.”16Toe het hulle Josua geantwoord en gesê: “Alles wat u ons beveel het, sal ons doen, en oral waarheen u ons stuur, sal ons gaan.וַֽיַּעֲנ֔וּ אֶת־יְהוֹשֻׁ֖עַ לֵאמֹ֑ר כֹּ֤ל אֲשֶׁר־צִוִּיתָ֨נוּ֙ נַֽעֲשֶׂ֔ה וְאֶֽל־כָּל־אֲשֶׁ֥ר תִּשְׁלָחֵ֖נוּ נֵלֵֽךְ׃So they answered Joshua, “Everything you have commanded us we will do, and everywhere you send us we will go.17Net soos ons in alles na Moses geluister het, so sal ons na u luister. Mag die HERE u God net met u wees, soos Hy met Moses was.כְּכֹ֤ל אֲשֶׁר־שָׁמַ֨עְנוּ֙ אֶל־מֹשֶׁ֔ה כֵּ֖ן נִשְׁמַ֣ע אֵלֶ֑יךָ רַ֠ק יִֽהְיֶ֞ה יְהוָ֤ה אֱלֹהֶ֨יךָ֙ עִמָּ֔ךְ כַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר הָיָ֖ה עִם־מֹשֶֽׁה׃Just as we obeyed Moses in all things, so we will obey you. And may the LORD your God be with you, as He was with Moses.18Elkeen wat teen u bevel in opstand kom en nie na u woorde luister nie, in alles wat u hom beveel, moet doodgemaak word. Wees net sterk en moedig.”aLetterlik: u mond.כָּל־אִ֞ישׁ אֲשֶׁר־יַמְרֶ֣ה אֶת־פִּ֗יךָ וְלֹֽא־יִשְׁמַ֧ע אֶת־דְּבָרֶ֛יךָ לְכֹ֥ל אֲשֶׁר־תְּצַוֶּ֖נּוּ יוּמָ֑ת רַ֖ק חֲזַ֥ק וֶאֱמָֽץ׃ פAnyone who rebels against your order and does not obey your words, all that you command him, will be put to death. Above all, be strong and courageous!”
