1En dadelik, vroeg in die môre, het die leierpriesters, nadat hulle saam met die oudstes en skrifgeleerdes en die hele Raad beraad gehou het, Jesus gebind, weggevoer en aan Pilatus oorgelewer.Καὶ ⸀εὐθὺς πρωῒ συμβούλιον ποιήσαντες οἱ ἀρχιερεῖς μετὰ τῶν πρεσβυτέρων καὶ γραμματέων καὶ ὅλον τὸ συνέδριον δήσαντες τὸν Ἰησοῦν ἀπήνεγκαν καὶ ⸀παρέδωκαν Πιλάτῳ.Early in the morning, the chief priests, elders, scribes, and the whole Sanhedrin devised a plan. They bound Jesus, led Him away, and handed Him over to Pilate. So Pilate questioned Him, “Are You the King of the Jews?” “You have said so,” Jesus replied. 3En die leierpriesters het Hom van baie dinge aangekla.καὶ κατηγόρουν αὐτοῦ οἱ ἀρχιερεῖς πολλά.And the chief priests began to accuse Him of many things. Then Pilate questioned Him again, “Have You no answer? Look how many charges they are bringing against You!” 5Maar Jesus het niks meer geantwoord nie, sodat Pilatus verwonderd was.ὁ δὲ Ἰησοῦς οὐκέτι οὐδὲν ἀπεκρίθη, ὥστε θαυμάζειν τὸν Πιλᾶτον.But to Pilate’s amazement, Jesus made no further reply.
6By die fees het hy gewoonlik een gevangene vir hulle losgelaat, vir wie hulle gevra het.Κατὰ δὲ ἑορτὴν ἀπέλυεν αὐτοῖς ἕνα δέσμιον ⸂ὃν παρῃτοῦντο⸃.Now it was Pilate’s custom at the feast to release to the people a prisoner of their choosing. 7En daar was een met die naam Barabbas, geboei saam met die opstandelinge wat in die opstand moord gepleeg het.ἦν δὲ ὁ λεγόμενος Βαραββᾶς μετὰ τῶν ⸀στασιαστῶν δεδεμένος οἵτινες ἐν τῇ στάσει φόνον πεποιήκεισαν.And a man named Barabbas was imprisoned with the rebels who had committed murder during the insurrection.
So the crowd went up and began asking Pilate to keep his custom.
9Maar Pilatus het hulle geantwoord en gesê: “Wil julle hê dat ek vir julle die koning van die Jode loslaat?”ὁ δὲ Πιλᾶτος ἀπεκρίθη αὐτοῖς λέγων· Θέλετε ἀπολύσω ὑμῖν τὸν βασιλέα τῶν Ἰουδαίων;“Do you want me to release to you the King of the Jews?” Pilate asked. 10Want hy het geweet dat die leierpriesters Hom uit afguns oorgelewer het.ἐγίνωσκεν γὰρ ὅτι διὰ φθόνον παραδεδώκεισαν αὐτὸν οἱ ἀρχιερεῖς.For he knew it was out of envy that the chief priests had handed Jesus over. But the chief priests stirred up the crowd to have him release Barabbas to them instead. 12Pilatus het weer geantwoord en vir hulle gesê: “Wat wil julle dan hê moet ek doen met Hom wat julle die koning van die Jode noem?”ὁ δὲ Πιλᾶτος ⸂πάλιν ἀποκριθεὶς ἔλεγεν⸃ αὐτοῖς· Τί οὖν ⸀θέλετε ποιήσω ⸂ὃν λέγετε⸃ ⸀τὸν βασιλέα τῶν Ἰουδαίων;So Pilate asked them again, “What then do you want me to do with the One you call the King of the Jews?” 13Maar hulle het weer geskreeu: “Kruisig Hom!”οἱ δὲ πάλιν ἔκραξαν· Σταύρωσον αὐτόν.And they shouted back, “Crucify Him!” 14Maar Pilatus het vir hulle gesê: “Want watter kwaad het Hy gedoen?” “What evil has He done?” But they shouted all the louder, “Crucify Him!” 15En Pilatus, wat die skare tevrede wou stel, het vir hulle Barabbas losgelaat, en nadat hy Jesus gegésel het, het hy Hom oorgelewer sodat Hy gekruisig sou word.
aLetterlik: om die genoegsame te doen.
And wishing to satisfy the crowd, Pilate released Barabbas to them. But he had Jesus flogged, and handed Him over to be crucified.
16Die soldate het Hom weggelei, binne-in die binnehof, dit is die pretorium, en hulle roep die hele afdeling bymekaar.Οἱ δὲ στρατιῶται ἀπήγαγον αὐτὸν ἔσω τῆς αὐλῆς, ὅ ἐστιν πραιτώριον, καὶ συγκαλοῦσιν ὅλην τὴν σπεῖραν.Then the soldiers led Jesus away into the palace (that is, the Praetorium) and called the whole company together. 17En hulle het Hom purper aangetrek en 'n kroon van dorings, wat hulle gevleg het, om Hom gesit.καὶ ⸀ἐνδιδύσκουσιν αὐτὸν πορφύραν καὶ περιτιθέασιν αὐτῷ πλέξαντες ἀκάνθινον στέφανον·They dressed Him in a purple robe, twisted together a crown of thorns, and set it on His head. 18En hulle het Hom begin groet: “Wees gegroet, koning van die Jode!”καὶ ἤρξαντο ἀσπάζεσθαι αὐτόν· Χαῖρε, ⸀βασιλεῦ τῶν Ἰουδαίων·And they began to salute Him: “Hail, King of the Jews!” 19En hulle het Hom met 'n riet oor die kop geslaan en op Hom gespoeg, en hulle het gekniel en voor Hom neergebuig.καὶ ἔτυπτον αὐτοῦ τὴν κεφαλὴν καλάμῳ καὶ ἐνέπτυον αὐτῷ, καὶ τιθέντες τὰ γόνατα προσεκύνουν αὐτῷ.They kept striking His head with a staff and spitting on Him. And they knelt down and bowed before Him. 20En toe hulle Hom bespot het, het hulle die purperkleed van Hom uitgetrek en Hom Sy eie klere aangetrek. After they had mocked Him, they removed the purple robe and put His own clothes back on Him. Then they led Him out to crucify Him.
Now Simon of Cyrene, the father of Alexander and Rufus, was passing by on his way in from the country, and the soldiers forced him to carry the cross of Jesus. They brought Jesus to a place called Golgotha, which means The Place of the Skull. 23En hulle het Hom wyn gegee wat met mirre vermeng was, maar Hy het dit nie geneem nie.καὶ ἐδίδουν ⸀αὐτῷ ἐσμυρνισμένον οἶνον, ⸀ὃς δὲ οὐκ ἔλαβεν.There they offered Him wine mixed with myrrh, but He did not take it. 24En hulle kruisig Hom en verdeel Sy klere deur die lot daaroor te werp, wie wat sou kry.καὶ ⸂σταυροῦσιν αὐτὸν καὶ⸃ διαμερίζονται τὰ ἱμάτια αὐτοῦ, βάλλοντες κλῆρον ἐπʼ αὐτὰ τίς τί ἄρῃ.And they crucified Him. They also divided His garments by casting lots to decide what each of them would take.
It was the third hour when they crucified Him.
26En die opskrif van die aanklag teen Hom was daarop geskryf: “Die koning van die Jode.”καὶ ἦν ἡ ἐπιγραφὴ τῆς αἰτίας αὐτοῦ ἐπιγεγραμμένη· Ὁ βασιλεὺς τῶν Ἰουδαίων.And the charge inscribed against Him read: THE KING OF THE JEWS. 27En saam met Hom kruisig hulle twee rowers, een aan Sy regterkant en een aan Sy linkerkant.καὶ σὺν αὐτῷ σταυροῦσιν δύο λῃστάς, ἕνα ἐκ δεξιῶν καὶ ἕνα ἐξ εὐωνύμων ⸀αὐτοῦ.Along with Jesus, they crucified two robbers, one on His right and one on His left.
Jy wat die tempel afbreek en in drie dae opbou,Καὶ οἱ παραπορευόμενοι ἐβλασφήμουν αὐτὸν κινοῦντες τὰς κεφαλὰς αὐτῶν καὶ λέγοντες· Οὐὰ ὁ καταλύων τὸν ναὸν καὶ ⸂οἰκοδομῶν ἐν τρισὶν ἡμέραις⸃,And those who passed by heaped abuse on Him, shaking their heads and saying, “Aha! You who are going to destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days, 30red jouself deur van die kruis af te kom.”σῶσον σεαυτὸν ⸀καταβὰς ἀπὸ τοῦ σταυροῦ.come down from the cross and save Yourself!” 31Net so het ook die leierpriesters saam met die skrifgeleerdes onder mekaar gespot en gesê: “Ander het Hy gered; Homself kan Hy nie red nie.ὁμοίως καὶ οἱ ἀρχιερεῖς ἐμπαίζοντες πρὸς ἀλλήλους μετὰ τῶν γραμματέων ἔλεγον· Ἄλλους ἔσωσεν, ἑαυτὸν οὐ δύναται σῶσαι·In the same way, the chief priests and scribes mocked Him among themselves, saying, “He saved others, but He cannot save Himself!
Let the Christ, the King of Israel, come down now from the cross, so that we may see and believe!” And even those who were crucified with Him berated Him.
From the sixth hour until the ninth hour darkness came over all the land.
34En om die negende uur het Jesus met 'n groot stem uitgeroep: “Eloï, Eloï, lema sabagthani?” wat vertaal beteken: “My God, my God, waarom het U my verlaat?”
aAanhaling uit Psalm 22:2.
καὶ τῇ ⸂ἐνάτῃ ὥρᾳ⸃ ἐβόησεν ὁ Ἰησοῦς φωνῇ ⸀μεγάλῃ· Ἐλωῒ ἐλωῒ ⸀λεμὰ σαβαχθάνι; ὅ ἐστιν μεθερμηνευόμενον Ὁ θεός μου ὁ θεός μου, εἰς τί ⸂ἐγκατέλιπές με⸃;At the ninth hour, Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?” which means, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?”
When some of those standing nearby heard this, they said, “Behold, He is calling Elijah.” 36En iemand het gehardloop en 'n spons met asyn gevul en dit op 'n riet gesit en Hom laat drink en gesê: “Laat staan, laat ons sien of Elia kom om Hom af te haal.”δραμὼν δέ ⸂τις καὶ⸃ γεμίσας σπόγγον ὄξους ⸀περιθεὶς καλάμῳ ἐπότιζεν αὐτόν, λέγων· Ἄφετε ἴδωμεν εἰ ἔρχεται Ἠλίας καθελεῖν αὐτόν.And someone ran and filled a sponge with sour wine. He put it on a reed and held it up for Jesus to drink, saying, “Leave Him alone. Let us see if Elijah comes to take Him down.” 37Maar Jesus het 'n groot stem laat hoor en uitgeasem.ὁ δὲ Ἰησοῦς ἀφεὶς φωνὴν μεγάλην ἐξέπνευσεν.But Jesus let out a loud cry and breathed His last. 38En die voorhangsel van die tempel het in twee geskeur, van bo tot onder.καὶ τὸ καταπέτασμα τοῦ ναοῦ ἐσχίσθη εἰς δύο ἀπʼ ἄνωθεν ἕως κάτω.And the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom.
ἰδὼν δὲ ὁ κεντυρίων ὁ παρεστηκὼς ἐξ ἐναντίας αὐτοῦ ὅτι ⸀οὕτως ἐξέπνευσεν εἶπεν· Ἀληθῶς ⸂οὗτος ὁ ἄνθρωπος⸃ υἱὸς ⸂θεοῦ ἦν⸃.When the centurion standing there in front of Jesus saw how He had breathed His last, he said, “Truly this man was the Son of God!”
Ἦσαν δὲ καὶ γυναῖκες ἀπὸ μακρόθεν θεωροῦσαι, ἐν ⸀αἷς καὶ ⸀Μαρία ἡ Μαγδαληνὴ καὶ Μαρία ⸀ἡ Ἰακώβου τοῦ μικροῦ καὶ ⸀Ἰωσῆτος μήτηρ καὶ Σαλώμη,And there were also women watching from a distance. Among them were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James the younger and of Joses, and Salome.
41wat, toe Hy in Galilea was, Hom gevolg en Hom gedien het, en baie ander wat saam met Hom na Jerusalem opgegaan het.⸀αἳ ὅτε ἦν ἐν τῇ Γαλιλαίᾳ ἠκολούθουν αὐτῷ καὶ διηκόνουν αὐτῷ, καὶ ἄλλαι πολλαὶ αἱ συναναβᾶσαι αὐτῷ εἰς Ἱεροσόλυμα.These women had followed Jesus and ministered to Him while He was in Galilee, and there were many other women who had come up to Jerusalem with Him.
42En toe dit al aand geword het, aangesien dit die voorbereidingsdag was, dit is die dag voor die sabbat,Καὶ ἤδη ὀψίας γενομένης, ἐπεὶ ἦν παρασκευή, ὅ ἐστιν ⸀προσάββατον,Now it was already evening. Since it was Preparation Day (that is, the day before the Sabbath), 43het Josef van Arimatea gekom, 'n aansienlike raadslid, wat self ook die koninkryk van God verwag het; hy het dit gewaag om na Pilatus in te gaan en die liggaam van Jesus te vra.⸀ἐλθὼν Ἰωσὴφ ⸀ὁ ἀπὸ Ἁριμαθαίας εὐσχήμων βουλευτής, ὃς καὶ αὐτὸς ἦν προσδεχόμενος τὴν βασιλείαν τοῦ θεοῦ, τολμήσας εἰσῆλθεν πρὸς ⸀τὸν Πιλᾶτον καὶ ᾐτήσατο τὸ σῶμα τοῦ Ἰησοῦ.Joseph of Arimathea, a prominent Council member who himself was waiting for the kingdom of God, boldly went to Pilate to ask for the body of Jesus. 44Maar Pilatus het hom verwonder of Hy al gesterf het, en nadat hy die offisier oor honderd by hom geroep het, het hy hom gevra of Hy lankal gesterf het.ὁ δὲ Πιλᾶτος ἐθαύμασεν εἰ ἤδη τέθνηκεν, καὶ προσκαλεσάμενος τὸν κεντυρίωνα ἐπηρώτησεν αὐτὸν εἰ ⸀πάλαι ἀπέθανεν·Pilate was surprised to hear that Jesus was already dead, so he summoned the centurion to ask if this was so. 45En nadat hy dit van die offisier oor honderd verneem het, het hy die lyk aan Josef geskenk.
aSommige manuskripte lees: liggaam.
When Pilate had confirmed it with the centurion, he granted the body to Joseph.
46En nadat hy 'n linnedoek gekoop het, het hy Hom afgehaal en in die linnedoek toegedraai en Hom in 'n graf gelê wat uit rots uitgekap was, en 'n klip teen die deur van die graf aangerol.καὶ ἀγοράσας ⸀σινδόνα καθελὼν αὐτὸν ἐνείλησεν τῇ σινδόνι καὶ ⸀ἔθηκεν αὐτὸν ἐν ⸀μνημείῳ ὃ ἦν λελατομημένον ἐκ πέτρας, καὶ προσεκύλισεν λίθον ἐπὶ τὴν θύραν τοῦ μνημείου.So Joseph bought a linen cloth, took down the body of Jesus, wrapped it in the cloth, and placed it in a tomb that had been cut out of the rock. Then he rolled a stone against the entrance to the tomb.
Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joseph saw where His body was placed.
