1En Moses en die ouderlinge van Israel het die volk beveel en gesê: “Onderhou die hele gebod wat ek julle vandag beveel.וַיְצַ֤ו מֹשֶׁה֙ וְזִקְנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל אֶת־הָעָ֖ם לֵאמֹ֑ר שָׁמֹר֙ אֶת־כָּל־הַמִּצְוָ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֧ר אָנֹכִ֛י מְצַוֶּ֥ה אֶתְכֶ֖ם הַיּֽוֹם׃Then Moses and the elders of Israel commanded the people: “Keep all the commandments I am giving you today.2“En dit sal wees: op die dag wanneer julle oor die Jordaan trek na die land wat die HERE jou God aan jou gee, moet jy vir jou groot klippe oprig en hulle met kalk bepleister.”וְהָיָ֗ה בַּיּוֹם֮ אֲשֶׁ֣ר תַּעַבְר֣וּ אֶת־הַיַּרְדֵּן֒ אֶל־הָאָ֕רֶץ אֲשֶׁר־יְהוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֶ֖יךָ נֹתֵ֣ן לָ֑ךְ וַהֲקֵמֹתָ֤ לְךָ֙ אֲבָנִ֣ים גְּדֹל֔וֹת וְשַׂדְתָּ֥ אֹתָ֖ם בַּשִּֽׂיד׃And on the day you cross the Jordan into the land that the LORD your God is giving you, set up large stones and coat them with plaster.3En jy moet daarop al die woorde van hierdie wet skryf wanneer jy oortrek, sodat jy kan ingaan in die land wat die HERE jou God aan jou gee, 'n land wat vloei van melk en heuning, soos die HERE, die God van jou vaders, aan jou gesê het.וְכָתַבְתָּ֣ עֲלֵיהֶ֗ן אֶֽת־כָּל־דִּבְרֵ֛י הַתּוֹרָ֥ה הַזֹּ֖את בְּעָבְרֶ֑ךָ לְמַ֡עַן אֲשֶׁר֩ תָּבֹ֨א אֶל־הָאָ֜רֶץ אֲֽשֶׁר־יְהוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֶ֣יךָ׀ נֹתֵ֣ן לְךָ֗ אֶ֣רֶץ זָבַ֤ת חָלָב֙ וּדְבַ֔שׁ כַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר דִּבֶּ֛ר יְהוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֵֽי־אֲבֹתֶ֖יךָ לָֽךְ׃Write on them all the words of this law when you have crossed over to enter the land that the LORD your God is giving you, a land flowing with milk and honey, just as the LORD, the God of your fathers, has promised you.4“En dit sal wees wanneer julle oor die Jordaan trek: julle moet hierdie klippe oprig, wat ek julle vandag beveel, op die berg Ebal, en jy moet hulle met kalk bepleister.”וְהָיָה֮ בְּעָבְרְכֶ֣ם אֶת־הַיַּרְדֵּן֒ תָּקִ֜ימוּ אֶת־הָאֲבָנִ֣ים הָאֵ֗לֶּה אֲשֶׁ֨ר אָנֹכִ֜י מְצַוֶּ֥ה אֶתְכֶ֛ם הַיּ֖וֹם בְּהַ֣ר עֵיבָ֑ל וְשַׂדְתָּ֥ אוֹתָ֖ם בַּשִּֽׂיד׃And when you have crossed the Jordan, you are to set up these stones on Mount Ebal, as I am commanding you today, and you are to coat them with plaster.5En jy moet daar 'n altaar bou vir die HERE jou God, 'n altaar van klippe; jy mag geen yster oor hulle swaai nie.וּבָנִ֤יתָ שָּׁם֙ מִזְבֵּ֔חַ לַיהוָ֖ה אֱלֹהֶ֑יךָ מִזְבַּ֣ח אֲבָנִ֔ים לֹא־תָנִ֥יף עֲלֵיהֶ֖ם בַּרְזֶֽל׃Moreover, you are to build there an altar to the LORD your God, an altar of stones. You must not use any iron tool on them.6“Van hele klippe moet jy die altaar van die HERE jou God bou, en jy moet daarop brandoffers aan die HERE jou God opoffer.”אֲבָנִ֤ים שְׁלֵמוֹת֙ תִּבְנֶ֔ה אֶת־מִזְבַּ֖ח יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֶ֑יךָ וְהַעֲלִ֤יתָ עָלָיו֙ עוֹלֹ֔ת לַיהוָ֖ה אֱלֹהֶֽיךָ׃You shall build the altar of the LORD your God with uncut stones and offer upon it burnt offerings to the LORD your God.7En jy moet vredeoffers slag en daar eet en bly wees voor die aangesig van die HERE jou God.וְזָבַחְתָּ֥ שְׁלָמִ֖ים וְאָכַ֣לְתָּ שָּׁ֑ם וְשָׂ֣מַחְתָּ֔ לִפְנֵ֖י יְהוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֶֽיךָ׃There you are to sacrifice your peace offerings, eating them and rejoicing in the presence of the LORD your God.8En jy moet op die klippe al die woorde van hierdie wet skryf, baie duidelik.”וְכָתַבְתָּ֣ עַל־הָאֲבָנִ֗ים אֶֽת־כָּל־דִּבְרֵ֛י הַתּוֹרָ֥ה הַזֹּ֖את בַּאֵ֥ר הֵיטֵֽב׃ סAnd you shall write distinctly upon these stones all the words of this law.”
9En Moses en die priesters, die Leviete, het met die hele Israel gespreek en gesê: “Wees stil en hoor, Israel! Op hierdie dag het jy 'n volk geword vir die HERE jou God.וַיְדַבֵּ֤ר מֹשֶׁה֙ וְהַכֹּהֲנִ֣ים הַלְוִיִּ֔ם אֶ֥ל כָּל־יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל לֵאמֹ֑ר הַסְכֵּ֤ת׀ וּשְׁמַע֙ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל הַיּ֤וֹם הַזֶּה֙ נִהְיֵ֣יתָֽ לְעָ֔ם לַיהוָ֖ה אֱלֹהֶֽיךָ׃Then Moses and the Levitical priests spoke to all Israel: “Be silent, O Israel, and listen! This day you have become the people of the LORD your God.10En jy moet luister na die stem van die HERE jou God en Sy gebooie en Sy insettinge doen wat ek jou vandag beveel.”וְשָׁ֣מַעְתָּ֔ בְּק֖וֹל יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֶ֑יךָ וְעָשִׂ֤יתָ אֶת־מִצְוֺתָו֙ וְאֶת־חֻקָּ֔יו אֲשֶׁ֛ר אָנֹכִ֥י מְצַוְּךָ֖ הַיּֽוֹם׃ סYou shall therefore obey the voice of the LORD your God and follow His commandments and statutes I am giving you today.”
11En Moses het die volk op daardie dag beveel en gesê:וַיְצַ֤ו מֹשֶׁה֙ אֶת־הָעָ֔ם בַּיּ֥וֹם הַה֖וּא לֵאמֹֽר׃On that day Moses commanded the people:12“Hierdie moet staan om die volk te seën op die berg Gerisim wanneer julle oor die Jordaan trek: Simeon en Levi en Juda en Issaskar en Josef en Benjamin.אֵ֠לֶּה יַֽעַמְד֞וּ לְבָרֵ֤ךְ אֶת־הָעָם֙ עַל־הַ֣ר גְּרִזִ֔ים בְּעָבְרְכֶ֖ם אֶת־הַיַּרְדֵּ֑ן שִׁמְעוֹן֙ וְלֵוִ֣י וִֽיהוּדָ֔ה וְיִשָּׂשכָ֖ר וְיוֹסֵ֥ף וּבִנְיָמִֽן׃“When you have crossed the Jordan, these tribes shall stand on Mount Gerizim to bless the people: Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Joseph, and Benjamin.13En hierdie moet staan vir die vloek op die berg Ebal: Ruben, Gad en Aser en Sebulon, Dan en Naftali.וְאֵ֛לֶּה יַֽעַמְד֥וּ עַל־הַקְּלָלָ֖ה בְּהַ֣ר עֵיבָ֑ל רְאוּבֵן֙ גָּ֣ד וְאָשֵׁ֔ר וּזְבוּלֻ֖ן דָּ֥ן וְנַפְתָּלִֽי׃And these tribes shall stand on Mount Ebal to deliver the curse: Reuben, Gad, Asher, Zebulun, Dan, and Naphtali.
14En die Leviete moet antwoord en met 'n harde stem aan al die manne van Israel sê:וְעָנ֣וּ הַלְוִיִּ֗ם וְאָֽמְר֛וּ אֶל־כָּל־אִ֥ישׁ יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל ק֥וֹל רָֽם׃ סThen the Levites shall proclaim in a loud voice to every Israelite:
15“Vervloek is die man wat 'n gesnede beeld en 'n gegote beeld maak, 'n gruwel vir die HERE, die werk van die hande van 'n ambagsman, en dit in die geheim neersit.” En die hele volk moet antwoord en sê: “Amen.”אָר֣וּר הָאִ֡ישׁ אֲשֶׁ֣ר יַעֲשֶׂה֩ פֶ֨סֶל וּמַסֵּכָ֜ה תּוֹעֲבַ֣ת יְהוָ֗ה מַעֲשֵׂ֛ה יְדֵ֥י חָרָ֖שׁ וְשָׂ֣ם בַּסָּ֑תֶר וְעָנ֧וּ כָל־הָעָ֛ם וְאָמְר֖וּ אָמֵֽן׃ ס‘Cursed is the man who makes a carved idol or molten image—an abomination to the LORD, the work of the hands of a craftsman—and sets it up in secret.’ And let all the people say, ‘Amen!’
16‘Vervloek is hy wat sy vader en sy moeder verag.’ En die hele volk moet sê: ‘Amen.’אָר֕וּר מַקְלֶ֥ה אָבִ֖יו וְאִמּ֑וֹ וְאָמַ֥ר כָּל־הָעָ֖ם אָמֵֽן׃ ס‘Cursed is he who dishonors his father or mother.’ And let all the people say, ‘Amen!’
17‘Vervloek is hy wat die grens van sy naaste verskuif.’ En die hele volk moet sê: ‘Amen.’אָר֕וּר מַסִּ֖יג גְּב֣וּל רֵעֵ֑הוּ וְאָמַ֥ר כָּל־הָעָ֖ם אָמֵֽן׃ ס‘Cursed is he who moves his neighbor’s boundary stone.’ And let all the people say, ‘Amen!’
18‘Vervloek is hy wat 'n blinde op die pad laat dwaal.’ En die hele volk moet sê: ‘Amen.’אָר֕וּר מַשְׁגֶּ֥ה עִוֵּ֖ר בַּדָּ֑רֶךְ וְאָמַ֥ר כָּל־הָעָ֖ם אָמֵֽן׃ ס‘Cursed is he who lets a blind man wander in the road.’ And let all the people say, ‘Amen!’
19‘Vervloek is hy wat die reg van die vreemdeling, die weeskind en die weduwee verdraai.’ En die hele volk moet sê: ‘Amen.’אָר֗וּר מַטֶּ֛ה מִשְׁפַּ֥ט גֵּר־יָת֖וֹם וְאַלְמָנָ֑ה וְאָמַ֥ר כָּל־הָעָ֖ם אָמֵֽן׃ ס‘Cursed is he who withholds justice from the foreigner, the fatherless, or the widow.’ And let all the people say, ‘Amen!’20“Vervloek is hy wat by sy vader se vrou lê, want hy het die kleedslip van sy vader ontbloot.” En die hele volk moet sê: “Amen.”aLetterlik: die vlerk van sy vader.אָר֗וּר שֹׁכֵב֙ עִם־אֵ֣שֶׁת אָבִ֔יו כִּ֥י גִלָּ֖ה כְּנַ֣ף אָבִ֑יו וְאָמַ֥ר כָּל־הָעָ֖ם אָמֵֽן׃ ס‘Cursed is he who sleeps with his father’s wife, for he has violated his father’s marriage bed.’ And let all the people say, ‘Amen!’

22‘Vervloek is hy wat by sy suster lê, die dogter van sy vader of die dogter van sy moeder.’ En die hele volk moet sê: ‘Amen.’אָר֗וּר שֹׁכֵב֙ עִם־אֲחֹת֔וֹ בַּת־אָבִ֖יו א֣וֹ בַת־אִמּ֑וֹ וְאָמַ֥ר כָּל־הָעָ֖ם אָמֵֽן׃ ס‘Cursed is he who sleeps with his sister, the daughter of his father or the daughter of his mother.’ And let all the people say, ‘Amen!’
23‘Vervloek is hy wat by sy skoonmoeder lê.’ En die hele volk moet sê: ‘Amen.’אָר֕וּר שֹׁכֵ֖ב עִם־חֹֽתַנְתּ֑וֹ וְאָמַ֥ר כָּל־הָעָ֖ם אָמֵֽן׃ ס‘Cursed is he who sleeps with his mother-in-law.’ And let all the people say, ‘Amen!’
24‘Vervloek is hy wat sy naaste in die geheim slaan.’ En die hele volk moet sê: ‘Amen.’aOf: doodslaan.אָר֕וּר מַכֵּ֥ה רֵעֵ֖הוּ בַּסָּ֑תֶר וְאָמַ֥ר כָּל־הָעָ֖ם אָמֵֽן׃ ס‘Cursed is he who strikes down his neighbor in secret.’ And let all the people say, ‘Amen!’25“Vervloek is hy wat omkoopgeld neem om 'n lewe te slaan, onskuldige bloed.” En die hele volk moet sê: “Amen.”aLetterlik: om 'n siel te slaan.אָרוּר֙ לֹקֵ֣חַ שֹׁ֔חַד לְהַכּ֥וֹת נֶ֖פֶשׁ דָּ֣ם נָקִ֑י וְאָמַ֥ר כָּל־הָעָ֖ם אָמֵֽן׃ ס‘Cursed is he who accepts a bribe to kill an innocent person.’ And let all the people say, ‘Amen!’26“Vervloek is hy wat die woorde van hierdie wet nie bevestig om hulle te doen nie.” En die hele volk moet sê: “Amen.”אָר֗וּר אֲשֶׁ֧ר לֹא־יָקִ֛ים אֶת־דִּבְרֵ֥י הַתּוֹרָֽה־הַזֹּ֖את לַעֲשׂ֣וֹת אוֹתָ֑ם וְאָמַ֥ר כָּל־הָעָ֖ם אָמֵֽן׃ פ‘Cursed is he who does not put the words of this law into practice.’ And let all the people say, ‘Amen!’
