1En dit sal gebeur wanneer al hierdie woorde oor jou kom, die seën en die vloek wat ek voor jou gegee het, en jy dit ter harte neem onder al die nasies waarheen die HERE jou God jou verdryf het,

Letterlik: en jy dit na jou hart laat terugkeer.

וְהָיָה֩ כִֽי־יָבֹ֨אוּ עָלֶ֜יךָ כָּל־הַדְּבָרִ֣ים הָאֵ֗לֶּה הַבְּרָכָה֙ וְהַקְּלָלָ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר נָתַ֖תִּי לְפָנֶ֑יךָ וַהֲשֵׁבֹתָ֙ אֶל־לְבָבֶ֔ךָ בְּכָל־הַגּוֹיִ֔ם אֲשֶׁ֧ר הִדִּיחֲךָ֛ יְהוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֶ֖יךָ שָֽׁמָּה׃“When all these things come upon you—the blessings and curses I have set before you—and you call them to mind in all the nations to which the LORD your God has banished you, 2en jy jou tot die HERE jou God bekeer en na Sy stem luister volgens alles wat ek jou vandag beveel, jy en jou kinders, met jou hele hart en met jou hele siel,וְשַׁבְתָּ֞ עַד־יְהוָ֤ה אֱלֹהֶ֨יךָ֙ וְשָׁמַעְתָּ֣ בְקֹל֔וֹ כְּכֹ֛ל אֲשֶׁר־אָנֹכִ֥י מְצַוְּךָ֖ הַיּ֑וֹם אַתָּ֣ה וּבָנֶ֔יךָ בְּכָל־לְבָבְךָ֖ וּבְכָל־נַפְשֶֽׁךָ׃and when you and your children return to the LORD your God and obey His voice with all your heart and all your soul according to everything I am giving you today, 3dan sal die HERE jou God jou lot herstel en Hom oor jou ontferm; en Hy sal weer terugkeer en jou bymekaarmaak uit al die volke waarheen die HERE jou God jou verstrooi het.

Letterlik: jou gevangenskap laat terugkeer.

וְשָׁ֨ב יְהוָ֧ה אֱלֹהֶ֛יךָ אֶת־שְׁבוּתְךָ֖ וְרִחֲמֶ֑ךָ וְשָׁ֗ב וְקִבֶּצְךָ֙ מִכָּל־הָ֣עַמִּ֔ים אֲשֶׁ֧ר הֱפִֽיצְךָ֛ יְהוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֶ֖יךָ שָֽׁמָּה׃then He will restore you from captivity and have compassion on you and gather you from all the nations to which the LORD your God has scattered you. 4As jou verdrewenes aan die einde van die hemel is, sal die HERE jou God jou daarvandaan bymekaarmaak en jou daarvandaan haal.אִם־יִהְיֶ֥ה נִֽדַּחֲךָ֖ בִּקְצֵ֣ה הַשָּׁמָ֑יִם מִשָּׁ֗ם יְקַבֶּצְךָ֙ יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֶ֔יךָ וּמִשָּׁ֖ם יִקָּחֶֽךָ׃Even if you have been banished to the farthest horizon, He will gather you and return you from there. 5En die HERE jou God sal jou bring na die land wat jou vaders in besit geneem het, en jy sal dit in besit neem; en Hy sal goed doen aan jou en jou talryker maak as jou vaders.וֶהֱבִֽיאֲךָ֞ יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֶ֗יךָ אֶל־הָאָ֛רֶץ אֲשֶׁר־יָרְשׁ֥וּ אֲבֹתֶ֖יךָ וִֽירִשְׁתָּ֑הּ וְהֵיטִֽבְךָ֥ וְהִרְבְּךָ֖ מֵאֲבֹתֶֽיךָ׃And the LORD your God will bring you into the land your fathers possessed, and you will take possession of it. He will cause you to prosper and multiply more than your fathers. 6En die HERE jou God sal jou hart en die hart van jou nageslag besny, om die HERE jou God lief te hê met jou hele hart en met jou hele siel, ter wille van jou lewe.וּמָ֨ל יְהוָ֧ה אֱלֹהֶ֛יךָ אֶת־לְבָבְךָ֖ וְאֶת־לְבַ֣ב זַרְעֶ֑ךָ לְאַהֲבָ֞ה אֶת־יְהוָ֧ה אֱלֹהֶ֛יךָ בְּכָל־לְבָבְךָ֥ וּבְכָל־נַפְשְׁךָ֖ לְמַ֥עַן חַיֶּֽיךָ׃The LORD your God will circumcise your hearts and the hearts of your descendants, and you will love Him with all your heart and with all your soul, so that you may live. 7En die HERE jou God sal al hierdie vloeke lê op jou vyande en op jou haters wat jou vervolg het.וְנָתַן֙ יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֶ֔יךָ אֵ֥ת כָּל־הָאָל֖וֹת הָאֵ֑לֶּה עַל־אֹיְבֶ֥יךָ וְעַל־שֹׂנְאֶ֖יךָ אֲשֶׁ֥ר רְדָפֽוּךָ׃Then the LORD your God will put all these curses upon your enemies who hate you and persecute you. 8En jy sal jou bekeer en na die stem van die HERE luister en al Sy gebooie doen wat ek jou vandag beveel.

Of: En jy sal weer na die stem van die HERE luister

וְאַתָּ֣ה תָשׁ֔וּב וְשָׁמַעְתָּ֖ בְּק֣וֹל יְהוָ֑ה וְעָשִׂ֨יתָ֙ אֶת־כָּל־מִצְוֺתָ֔יו אֲשֶׁ֛ר אָנֹכִ֥י מְצַוְּךָ֖ הַיּֽוֹם׃And you will again obey the voice of the LORD and follow all His commandments I am giving you today. 9En die HERE jou God sal jou laat oorvloei in al die werk van jou hand, in die vrug van jou buik en in die vrug van jou vee en in die vrug van jou grond, ten goede; want die HERE sal weer terugkeer om oor jou bly te wees ten goede, soos Hy bly was oor jou vaders,

Letterlik: sal jou laat oorbly.

וְהוֹתִֽירְךָ֩ יְהוָ֨ה אֱלֹהֶ֜יךָ בְּכֹ֣ל׀ מַעֲשֵׂ֣ה יָדֶ֗ךָ בִּפְרִ֨י בִטְנְךָ֜ וּבִפְרִ֧י בְהֶמְתְּךָ֛ וּבִפְרִ֥י אַדְמָתְךָ֖ לְטוֹבָ֑ה כִּ֣י׀ יָשׁ֣וּב יְהוָ֗ה לָשׂ֤וּשׂ עָלֶ֨יךָ֙ לְט֔וֹב כַּאֲשֶׁר־שָׂ֖שׂ עַל־אֲבֹתֶֽיךָ׃So the LORD your God will make you abound in all the work of your hands and in the fruit of your womb, the offspring of your livestock, and the produce of your land. Indeed, the LORD will again delight in your prosperity, as He delighted in that of your fathers, 10wanneer jy na die stem van die HERE jou God luister om Sy gebooie en Sy insettinge te onderhou wat in hierdie boek van die wet geskryf is, wanneer jy jou tot die HERE jou God bekeer met jou hele hart en met jou hele siel.כִּ֣י תִשְׁמַ֗ע בְּקוֹל֙ יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֶ֔יךָ לִשְׁמֹ֤ר מִצְוֺתָיו֙ וְחֻקֹּתָ֔יו הַכְּתוּבָ֕ה בְּסֵ֥פֶר הַתּוֹרָ֖ה הַזֶּ֑ה כִּ֤י תָשׁוּב֙ אֶל־יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֶ֔יךָ בְּכָל־לְבָבְךָ֖ וּבְכָל־נַפְשֶֽׁךָ׃ פif you obey the LORD your God by keeping His commandments and statutes that are written in this Book of the Law, and if you turn to Him with all your heart and with all your soul.

11Want hierdie gebod wat ek jou vandag beveel, is nie te moeilik vir jou nie, en dit is nie ver nie.

Letterlik: nie te wonderbaar vir jou nie

כִּ֚י הַמִּצְוָ֣ה הַזֹּ֔את אֲשֶׁ֛ר אָנֹכִ֥י מְצַוְּךָ֖ הַיּ֑וֹם לֹֽא־נִפְלֵ֥את הִוא֙ מִמְּךָ֔ וְלֹ֥א רְחֹקָ֖ה הִֽוא׃For this commandment I give you today is not too difficult for you or beyond your reach. 12Dit is nie in die hemel nie, om te sê: “Wie sal vir ons na die hemel optrek en dit vir ons haal en dit vir ons laat hoor, sodat ons dit kan doen?”לֹ֥א בַשָּׁמַ֖יִם הִ֑וא לֵאמֹ֗ר מִ֣י יַעֲלֶה־לָּ֤נוּ הַשָּׁמַ֨יְמָה֙ וְיִקָּחֶ֣הָ לָּ֔נוּ וְיַשְׁמִעֵ֥נוּ אֹתָ֖הּ וְנַעֲשֶֽׂנָּה׃It is not in heaven, that you should need to ask, ‘Who will ascend into heaven to get it for us and proclaim it, that we may obey it?’ 13En dit is nie oorkant die see nie, om te sê: “Wie sal vir ons oor die see gaan na die oorkant van die see en dit vir ons haal en dit vir ons laat hoor, sodat ons dit kan doen?”וְלֹֽא־מֵעֵ֥בֶר לַיָּ֖ם הִ֑וא לֵאמֹ֗ר מִ֣י יַעֲבָר־לָ֜נוּ אֶל־עֵ֤בֶר הַיָּם֙ וְיִקָּחֶ֣הָ לָּ֔נוּ וְיַשְׁמִעֵ֥נוּ אֹתָ֖הּ וְנַעֲשֶֽׂנָּה׃And it is not beyond the sea, that you should need to ask, ‘Who will cross the sea to get it for us and proclaim it, that we may obey it?’ 14Want die woord is baie naby jou, in jou mond en in jou hart, om dit te doen.כִּֽי־קָר֥וֹב אֵלֶ֛יךָ הַדָּבָ֖ר מְאֹ֑ד בְּפִ֥יךָ וּבִֽלְבָבְךָ֖ לַעֲשֹׂתֽוֹ׃ סBut the word is very near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart, so that you may obey it.

15Kyk, ek het vandag die lewe en die goeie, en die dood en die kwaad voor jou gestel,רְאֵ֨ה נָתַ֤תִּי לְפָנֶ֨יךָ֙ הַיּ֔וֹם אֶת־הַֽחַיִּ֖ים וְאֶת־הַטּ֑וֹב וְאֶת־הַמָּ֖וֶת וְאֶת־הָרָֽע׃See, I have set before you today life and prosperity, as well as death and disaster. 16wat ek jou vandag beveel: om die HERE jou God lief te hê, om in Sy weë te wandel en Sy gebooie en Sy insettinge en Sy verordeninge te onderhou; dan sal jy lewe en talryk word, en die HERE jou God sal jou seën in die land waarheen jy gaan om dit in besit te neem.אֲשֶׁ֨ר אָנֹכִ֣י מְצַוְּךָ֮ הַיּוֹם֒ לְאַהֲבָ֞ה אֶת־יְהוָ֤ה אֱלֹהֶ֨יךָ֙ לָלֶ֣כֶת בִּדְרָכָ֔יו וְלִשְׁמֹ֛ר מִצְוֺתָ֥יו וְחֻקֹּתָ֖יו וּמִשְׁפָּטָ֑יו וְחָיִ֣יתָ וְרָבִ֔יתָ וּבֵֽרַכְךָ֙ יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֶ֔יךָ בָּאָ֕רֶץ אֲשֶׁר־אַתָּ֥ה בָא־שָׁ֖מָּה לְרִשְׁתָּֽהּ׃For I am commanding you today to love the LORD your God, to walk in His ways, and to keep His commandments, statutes, and ordinances, so that you may live and increase, and the LORD your God may bless you in the land that you are entering to possess. 17Maar as jou hart wegdraai en jy nie luister nie, en jy weggelok word en voor ander gode neerbuig en hulle dien,

Letterlik: weggedryf word

וְאִם־יִפְנֶ֥ה לְבָבְךָ֖ וְלֹ֣א תִשְׁמָ֑ע וְנִדַּחְתָּ֗ וְהִֽשְׁתַּחֲוִ֛יתָ לֵאלֹהִ֥ים אֲחֵרִ֖ים וַעֲבַדְתָּֽם׃But if your heart turns away and you do not listen, but are drawn away to bow down to other gods and worship them, 18dan kondig ek julle vandag aan dat julle sekerlik sal omkom; julle sal nie dae verleng op die grond waarheen jy oor die Jordaan gaan om daarheen te gaan en dit in besit te neem nie.

Letterlik: julle sal nie dae verleng nie.

הִגַּ֤דְתִּי לָכֶם֙ הַיּ֔וֹם כִּ֥י אָבֹ֖ד תֹּאבֵד֑וּן לֹא־תַאֲרִיכֻ֤ן יָמִים֙ עַל־הָ֣אֲדָמָ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֨ר אַתָּ֤ה עֹבֵר֙ אֶת־הַיַּרְדֵּ֔ן לָבֹ֥א שָׁ֖מָּה לְרִשְׁתָּֽהּ׃I declare to you today that you will surely perish; you shall not prolong your days in the land that you are crossing the Jordan to possess. 19Ek roep vandag die hemel en die aarde as getuies teen julle: die lewe en die dood het ek voor jou gestel, die seën en die vloek. Kies dan die lewe, sodat jy kan lewe, jy en jou nageslag,הַעִידֹ֨תִי בָכֶ֣ם הַיּוֹם֮ אֶת־הַשָּׁמַ֣יִם וְאֶת־הָאָרֶץ֒ הַחַיִּ֤ים וְהַמָּ֨וֶת֙ נָתַ֣תִּי לְפָנֶ֔יךָ הַבְּרָכָ֖ה וְהַקְּלָלָ֑ה וּבָֽחַרְתָּ֙ בַּֽחַיִּ֔ים לְמַ֥עַן תִּחְיֶ֖ה אַתָּ֥ה וְזַרְעֶֽךָ׃I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you today that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing. Therefore choose life, so that you and your descendants may live, 20deur die HERE jou God lief te hê, na Sy stem te luister en Hom aan te hang; want Hy is jou lewe en die lengte van jou dae, om te woon in die land wat die HERE aan jou vaders, aan Abraham, aan Isak en aan Jakob, gesweer het om aan hulle te gee.

לְאַֽהֲבָה֙ אֶת־יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֶ֔יךָ לִשְׁמֹ֥עַ בְּקֹל֖וֹ וּלְדָבְקָה־ב֑וֹ כִּ֣י ה֤וּא חַיֶּ֨יךָ֙ וְאֹ֣רֶךְ יָמֶ֔יךָ לָשֶׁ֣בֶת עַל־הָאֲדָמָ֗ה אֲשֶׁר֩ נִשְׁבַּ֨ע יְהוָ֧ה לַאֲבֹתֶ֛יךָ לְאַבְרָהָ֛ם לְיִצְחָ֥ק וּֽלְיַעֲקֹ֖ב לָתֵ֥ת לָהֶֽם׃ פand that you may love the LORD your God, obey Him, and hold fast to Him. For He is your life, and He will prolong your life in the land that the LORD swore to give to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.”
