1Hy het ook by Derbe en by Listra aangekom. En kyk, daar was 'n sekere dissipel daar met die naam Timoteus, die seun van 'n gelowige Joodse vrou, maar van 'n Griekse vader,Κατήντησεν δὲ ⸀καὶ εἰς Δέρβην καὶ ⸀εἰς Λύστραν. καὶ ἰδοὺ μαθητής τις ἦν ἐκεῖ ὀνόματι Τιμόθεος, υἱὸς ⸀γυναικὸς Ἰουδαίας πιστῆς, πατρὸς δὲ Ἕλληνος,Paul came to Derbe and then to Lystra, where he found a disciple named Timothy, the son of a believing Jewish woman and a Greek father.2van wie die broers en susters in Listra en Ikonium goed getuig het.ὃς ἐμαρτυρεῖτο ὑπὸ τῶν ἐν Λύστροις καὶ Ἰκονίῳ ἀδελφῶν·The brothers in Lystra and Iconium spoke well of him.3Paulus wou hê dat hy saam met hom moes uitgaan, en hy het hom geneem en besny ter wille van die Jode wat in daardie plekke was, want almal het geweet dat sy vader 'n Griek was.τοῦτον ἠθέλησεν ὁ Παῦλος σὺν αὐτῷ ἐξελθεῖν, καὶ λαβὼν περιέτεμεν αὐτὸν διὰ τοὺς Ἰουδαίους τοὺς ὄντας ἐν τοῖς τόποις ἐκείνοις, ᾔδεισαν γὰρ ἅπαντες ⸂ὅτι Ἕλλην ὁ πατὴρ αὐτοῦ⸃ ὑπῆρχεν.Paul wanted Timothy to accompany him, so he took him and circumcised him on account of the Jews in that area, for they all knew that his father was a Greek.4En terwyl hulle deur die stede gereis het, het hulle aan hulle die bepalings oorgelewer om te onderhou wat deur die apostels en ouderlinge in Jerusalem beslis is.ὡς δὲ διεπορεύοντο τὰς πόλεις, ⸀παρεδίδοσαν αὐτοῖς φυλάσσειν τὰ δόγματα τὰ κεκριμένα ὑπὸ τῶν ἀποστόλων ⸀καὶ πρεσβυτέρων τῶν ἐν ⸀Ἱεροσολύμοις.As they went from town to town, they delivered the decisions handed down by the apostles and elders in Jerusalem for the people to obey.5So is die gemeentes dan in die geloof versterk en het daagliks in getal toegeneem.αἱ μὲν οὖν ἐκκλησίαι ἐστερεοῦντο τῇ πίστει καὶ ἐπερίσσευον τῷ ἀριθμῷ καθʼ ἡμέραν.So the churches were strengthened in the faith and grew daily in numbers.
6Hulle het deur Frigië en die Galatiese land getrek, nadat hulle deur die Heilige Gees verhinder is om die woord in Asië te spreek.⸀Διῆλθον δὲ τὴν Φρυγίαν ⸀καὶ Γαλατικὴν χώραν, κωλυθέντες ὑπὸ τοῦ ἁγίου πνεύματος λαλῆσαι τὸν λόγον ἐν τῇ Ἀσίᾳ,After the Holy Spirit had prevented them from speaking the word in the province of Asia, they traveled through the region of Phrygia and Galatia.7en toe hulle by Misië gekom het, het hulle probeer om na Bitinië te gaan, en die Gees van Jesus het hulle nie toegelaat nie.aSommige manuskripte lees: en die Gees het hulle nie toegelaat nie.ἐλθόντες ⸀δὲ κατὰ τὴν Μυσίαν ἐπείραζον ⸀εἰς τὴν Βιθυνίαν ⸀πορευθῆναι καὶ οὐκ εἴασεν αὐτοὺς τὸ πνεῦμα ⸀Ἰησοῦ·And when they came to the border of Mysia, they tried to enter Bithynia, but the Spirit of Jesus would not permit them.8en hulle het by Misië verbygegaan en afgegaan na Troas.παρελθόντες δὲ τὴν Μυσίαν κατέβησαν εἰς Τρῳάδα.So they passed by Mysia and went down to Troas.
9En 'n gesig het gedurende die nag aan Paulus verskyn: 'n man, 'n Masedoniër, het gestaan en hom versoek en gesê: “Kom oor na Masedonië en help ons.”καὶ ὅραμα ⸀διὰ νυκτὸς ⸂τῷ Παύλῳ ὤφθη⸃, ἀνὴρ ⸂Μακεδών τις ἦν⸃ ἑστὼς ⸀καὶ παρακαλῶν αὐτὸν καὶ λέγων· Διαβὰς εἰς Μακεδονίαν βοήθησον ἡμῖν.During the night, Paul had a vision of a man of Macedonia standing and pleading with him, “Come over to Macedonia and help us.”10Toe hy die gesig gesien het, het ons dadelik probeer om uit te gaan na Masedonië, omdat ons tot die gevolgtrekking gekom het dat God ons geroep het om die evangelie aan hulle te verkondig.aSommige manuskripte lees: die Here.ὡς δὲ τὸ ὅραμα εἶδεν, εὐθέως ἐζητήσαμεν ἐξελθεῖν ⸀εἰς Μακεδονίαν, συμβιβάζοντες ὅτι προσκέκληται ἡμᾶς ὁ ⸀θεὸς εὐαγγελίσασθαι αὐτούς.As soon as Paul had seen the vision, we got ready to leave for Macedonia, concluding that God had called us to preach the gospel to them.
11Ons het dan van Troas afgevaar en reguit na Samotrake gekoers, en die volgende dag na Neapolis,Ἀναχθέντες ⸀οὖν ⸀ἀπὸ Τρῳάδος εὐθυδρομήσαμεν εἰς Σαμοθρᾴκην, τῇ ⸀δὲ ἐπιούσῃ εἰς ⸂Νέαν Πόλιν⸃,We sailed from Troas straight to Samothrace, and the following day on to Neapolis.12en daarvandaan na Filippi, wat 'n voorste stad van die distrik van Masedonië is, 'n kolonie. Ons het 'n paar dae in hierdie stad vertoef.aOf: 'n stad van die eerste distrik van Masedonië.⸀κἀκεῖθεν εἰς Φιλίππους, ἥτις ἐστὶν ⸂πρώτη τῆς μερίδος⸃ Μακεδονίας πόλις, κολωνία. ἦμεν δὲ ἐν ⸀ταύτῃ τῇ πόλει διατρίβοντες ἡμέρας τινάς.From there we went to the Roman colony of Philippi, the leading city of that district of Macedonia. And we stayed there several days.13En op die sabbatdag het ons buite die poort uitgegaan na 'n rivier, waar ons gemeen het dat daar 'n plek van gebed was, en ons het gaan sit en met die vroue gepraat wat bymekaargekom het.aSommige manuskripte lees: buite die stad uitgegaan.τῇ τε ἡμέρᾳ τῶν σαββάτων ἐξήλθομεν ἔξω τῆς ⸀πύλης παρὰ ποταμὸν οὗ ⸂ἐνομίζομεν προσευχὴν⸃ εἶναι, καὶ καθίσαντες ἐλαλοῦμεν ταῖς συνελθούσαις γυναιξίν.On the Sabbath we went outside the city gate along the river, where it was customary to find a place of prayer. After sitting down, we spoke to the women who had gathered there.14En 'n sekere vrou met die naam Lidia, 'n purperverkoopster van die stad Tiatira, wat God vereer het, het geluister; die Here het haar hart geopen om ag te gee op wat deur Paulus gesê is.καί τις γυνὴ ὀνόματι Λυδία, πορφυρόπωλις πόλεως Θυατείρων σεβομένη τὸν θεόν, ἤκουεν, ἧς ὁ κύριος διήνοιξεν τὴν καρδίαν προσέχειν τοῖς λαλουμένοις ὑπὸ ⸀τοῦ Παύλου.Among those listening was a woman named Lydia, a dealer in purple cloth from the city of Thyatira, who was a worshiper of God. The Lord opened her heart to respond to Paul’s message.15Toe sy en haar huis gedoop is, het sy gesmeek en gesê: “As julle geoordeel het dat ek getrou aan die Here is, kom in my huis in en bly daar.” En sy het by ons aangedring.aLetterlik: sy het ons gedwing.bOf: dat ek gelowig in die Here is.ὡς δὲ ἐβαπτίσθη καὶ ὁ οἶκος αὐτῆς, παρεκάλεσεν λέγουσα· Εἰ κεκρίκατέ με πιστὴν τῷ κυρίῳ εἶναι, εἰσελθόντες εἰς τὸν οἶκόν μου ⸀μένετε· καὶ παρεβιάσατο ἡμᾶς.And when she and her household had been baptized, she urged us, “If you consider me a believer in the Lord, come and stay at my house.” And she persuaded us.
16En dit het gebeur, terwyl ons na die plek van gebed gegaan het, dat 'n sekere slavin wat 'n waarsêende gees gehad het ons tegemoetgekom het; sy het vir haar here groot wins ingebring deur te waarsê.aLetterlik: 'n Puthon-gees.Ἐγένετο δὲ πορευομένων ἡμῶν εἰς ⸀τὴν προσευχὴν παιδίσκην τινὰ ἔχουσαν πνεῦμα ⸀πύθωνα ⸀ὑπαντῆσαι ἡμῖν, ἥτις ἐργασίαν πολλὴν παρεῖχεν τοῖς κυρίοις αὐτῆς μαντευομένη·One day as we were going to the place of prayer, we were met by a slave girl with a spirit of divination, who earned a large income for her masters by fortune-telling.17Sy het Paulus en ons agternagevolg en geskree en gesê: “Hierdie mense is slawe van die allerhoogste God, wat aan julle 'n weg van redding verkondig.”aSommige manuskripte lees: wat aan ons 'n weg van redding verkondig.αὕτη ⸀κατακολουθοῦσα τῷ Παύλῳ καὶ ἡμῖν ἔκραζεν λέγουσα· Οὗτοι οἱ ἄνθρωποι δοῦλοι τοῦ θεοῦ τοῦ ὑψίστου εἰσίν, οἵτινες καταγγέλλουσιν ⸀ὑμῖν ὁδὸν σωτηρίας.This girl followed Paul and the rest of us, shouting, “These men are servants of the Most High God, who are proclaiming to you the way of salvation!”18Dit het sy baie dae lank gedoen. She continued this for many days. Eventually Paul grew so aggravated that he turned and said to the spirit, “In the name of Jesus Christ I command you to come out of her!” And the spirit left her at that very moment.
19Maar toe haar here sien dat die hoop op hulle verdienste uitgegaan het, het hulle Paulus en Silas gegryp en na die markplein gesleep, na die owerstes toe,Ἰδόντες δὲ οἱ κύριοι αὐτῆς ὅτι ἐξῆλθεν ἡ ἐλπὶς τῆς ἐργασίας αὐτῶν ἐπιλαβόμενοι τὸν Παῦλον καὶ τὸν Σιλᾶν εἵλκυσαν εἰς τὴν ἀγορὰν ἐπὶ τοὺς ἄρχοντας,When the girl’s owners saw that their hope of making money was gone, they seized Paul and Silas and dragged them before the authorities in the marketplace.20en hulle voor die landdroste gebring en gesê: “Hierdie mense bring ons stad in beroering; hulle is Jode,καὶ προσαγαγόντες αὐτοὺς τοῖς στρατηγοῖς εἶπαν· Οὗτοι οἱ ἄνθρωποι ἐκταράσσουσιν ἡμῶν τὴν πόλιν Ἰουδαῖοι ὑπάρχοντες,They brought them to the magistrates and said, “These men are Jews and are throwing our city into turmoil21en hulle verkondig gebruike wat vir ons, wat Romeine is, nie geoorloof is om aan te neem of te doen nie.”καὶ καταγγέλλουσιν ἔθη ἃ οὐκ ἔξεστιν ἡμῖν παραδέχεσθαι οὐδὲ ποιεῖν Ῥωμαίοις οὖσιν.by promoting customs that are unlawful for us Romans to adopt or practice.”22En die skare het saam teen hulle opgestaan, en die landdroste het hulle klere van hulle afgeskeur en beveel dat hulle met stokke geslaan word,καὶ συνεπέστη ὁ ὄχλος κατʼ αὐτῶν, καὶ οἱ στρατηγοὶ περιρήξαντες αὐτῶν τὰ ἱμάτια ἐκέλευον ῥαβδίζειν,The crowd joined in the attack against Paul and Silas, and the magistrates ordered that they be stripped and beaten with rods.23en nadat hulle baie houe op hulle gelê het, het hulle hulle in die gevangenis gegooi en die tronkbewaarder beveel om hulle veilig te bewaak.πολλάς ⸀τε ἐπιθέντες αὐτοῖς πληγὰς ἔβαλον εἰς φυλακήν, παραγγείλαντες τῷ δεσμοφύλακι ἀσφαλῶς τηρεῖν αὐτούς·And after striking them with many blows, they threw them into prison and ordered the jailer to guard them securely.24Hy het so 'n bevel ontvang en hulle in die binneste gevangenis gegooi en hulle voete in die blok vasgemaak.ὃς παραγγελίαν τοιαύτην ⸀λαβὼν ἔβαλεν αὐτοὺς εἰς τὴν ἐσωτέραν φυλακὴν καὶ τοὺς πόδας ⸂ἠσφαλίσατο αὐτῶν⸃ εἰς τὸ ξύλον.On receiving this order, he placed them in the inner cell and fastened their feet in the stocks.
25Maar omtrent middernag het Paulus en Silas gebid en lofliedere tot God gesing, en die gevangenes het na hulle geluister.Κατὰ δὲ τὸ μεσονύκτιον Παῦλος καὶ Σιλᾶς προσευχόμενοι ὕμνουν τὸν θεόν, ἐπηκροῶντο δὲ αὐτῶν οἱ δέσμιοι·About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them.26Skielik het daar 'n groot aardbewing gekom, sodat die fondamente van die tronk geskud het; en dadelik is al die deure oopgemaak, en almal se boeie is losgemaak.ἄφνω δὲ σεισμὸς ἐγένετο μέγας ὥστε σαλευθῆναι τὰ θεμέλια τοῦ δεσμωτηρίου, ἠνεῴχθησαν ⸀δὲ παραχρῆμα αἱ θύραι πᾶσαι, καὶ πάντων τὰ δεσμὰ ἀνέθη.Suddenly a strong earthquake shook the foundations of the prison. At once all the doors flew open and everyone’s chains came loose.27Toe die tronkbewaarder wakker word en die deure van die tronk oop sien, het hy sy swaard getrek en wou homself doodmaak, omdat hy gemeen het dat die gevangenes ontvlug het.ἔξυπνος δὲ γενόμενος ὁ δεσμοφύλαξ καὶ ἰδὼν ἀνεῳγμένας τὰς θύρας τῆς φυλακῆς σπασάμενος ⸀τὴν μάχαιραν ἤμελλεν ἑαυτὸν ἀναιρεῖν, νομίζων ἐκπεφευγέναι τοὺς δεσμίους.When the jailer woke up and saw the prison doors open, he drew his sword and was about to kill himself, presuming that the prisoners had escaped.28Maar Paulus het met 'n groot stem geroep en gesê: “Doen jouself geen kwaad aan nie, want ons is almal hier.”ἐφώνησεν δὲ ⸂φωνῇ μεγάλῃ ὁ Παῦλος⸃ λέγων· Μηδὲν πράξῃς σεαυτῷ κακόν, ἅπαντες γάρ ἐσμεν ἐνθάδε.But Paul called out in a loud voice, “Do not harm yourself! We are all here!”29Hy het toe ligte gevra en ingespring, en bewend het hy voor Paulus en Silas neergeval,αἰτήσας δὲ φῶτα εἰσεπήδησεν καὶ ἔντρομος γενόμενος προσέπεσεν τῷ Παύλῳ καὶ ⸀τῷ Σιλᾷ,Calling for lights, the jailer rushed in and fell trembling before Paul and Silas.30en hy het hulle buitentoe gebring en gesê: “Menere, wat moet ek doen om gered te word?”aLetterlik: Here (as aanspreekvorm vir mense).καὶ προαγαγὼν αὐτοὺς ἔξω ἔφη· Κύριοι, τί με δεῖ ποιεῖν ἵνα σωθῶ;Then he brought them out and asked, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”31En hulle het gesê: “Glo in die Here Jesus, en jy sal gered word, jy en jou huis.”aSommige manuskripte lees: Glo in die Here Jesus Christus.οἱ δὲ εἶπαν· Πίστευσον ἐπὶ τὸν κύριον ⸀Ἰησοῦν, καὶ σωθήσῃ σὺ καὶ ὁ οἶκός σου.They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved, you and your household.”32En hulle het die woord van die Here aan hom gespreek, saam met almal wat in sy huis was.καὶ ἐλάλησαν αὐτῷ τὸν λόγον τοῦ ⸀κυρίου ⸀σὺν πᾶσι τοῖς ἐν τῇ οἰκίᾳ αὐτοῦ.Then Paul and Silas spoke the word of the Lord to him and to everyone in his house.33En hy het hulle op daardie uur van die nag geneem en hulle van die houe gewas, en hy en al sy mense is dadelik gedoop.καὶ παραλαβὼν αὐτοὺς ἐν ἐκείνῃ τῇ ὥρᾳ τῆς νυκτὸς ἔλουσεν ἀπὸ τῶν πληγῶν, καὶ ἐβαπτίσθη αὐτὸς καὶ οἱ αὐτοῦ ⸀πάντες παραχρῆμα,At that hour of the night, the jailer took them and washed their wounds. And without delay, he and all his household were baptized.34En hy het hulle in die huis gebring en 'n tafel voorgesit, en hy het hom saam met sy hele huisgesin verheug omdat hy in God geglo het.ἀναγαγών τε αὐτοὺς εἰς τὸν ⸀οἶκον παρέθηκεν τράπεζαν καὶ ⸀ἠγαλλιάσατο πανοικεὶ πεπιστευκὼς τῷ θεῷ.Then he brought them into his home and set a meal before them. So he and all his household rejoiced that they had come to believe in God.
When daylight came, the magistrates sent their officers with the order: “Release those men.”36En die tronkbewaarder het hierdie woorde aan Paulus meegedeel: “Die magistrate het gestuur dat julle losgelaat word; kom dan nou uit en gaan in vrede.”ἀπήγγειλεν δὲ ὁ δεσμοφύλαξ τοὺς λόγους ⸀τούτους πρὸς τὸν Παῦλον, ὅτι Ἀπέσταλκαν οἱ στρατηγοὶ ἵνα ἀπολυθῆτε· νῦν οὖν ἐξελθόντες πορεύεσθε ἐν εἰρήνῃ.The jailer informed Paul: “The magistrates have sent orders to release you. Now you may go on your way in peace.”37Maar Paulus het vir hulle gesê: “Hulle het ons, wat Romeinse mense is, in die openbaar geslaan sonder dat ons veroordeel is, en ons in die gevangenis gegooi, en nou stuur hulle ons in die geheim weg? But Paul said to the officers, “They beat us publicly without a trial and threw us into prison, even though we are Roman citizens. And now do they want to send us away secretly? Absolutely not! Let them come themselves and escort us out!”38En die stafdraers het hierdie woorde aan die magistrate meegedeel; en hulle het bang geword toe hulle hoor dat hulle Romeine is,⸀ἀπήγγειλαν δὲ τοῖς στρατηγοῖς οἱ ῥαβδοῦχοι τὰ ῥήματα ταῦτα· ⸂ἐφοβήθησαν δὲ⸃ ἀκούσαντες ὅτι Ῥωμαῖοί εἰσιν,So the officers relayed this message to the magistrates, who were alarmed to hear that Paul and Silas were Roman citizens.39en hulle het gekom en hulle gesmeek, en hulle uitgelei en gevra om uit die stad weg te gaan.καὶ ἐλθόντες παρεκάλεσαν αὐτούς, καὶ ἐξαγαγόντες ἠρώτων ⸂ἀπελθεῖν ἀπὸ⸃ τῆς πόλεως.They came to appease them and led them out, requesting that they leave the city.40En toe hulle uit die gevangenis uitgegaan het, het hulle na Lidia gegaan, en nadat hulle die broers en susters gesien het, het hulle hulle bemoedig en vertrek.ἐξελθόντες δὲ ⸀ἀπὸ τῆς φυλακῆς εἰσῆλθον πρὸς τὴν Λυδίαν, καὶ ἰδόντες ⸂παρεκάλεσαν τοὺς ἀδελφοὺς⸃ καὶ ἐξῆλθαν.After Paul and Silas came out of the prison, they went to Lydia’s house to see the brothers and encourage them. Then they left the city.
