1Toe het die familiehoofde van die Leviete nader gekom na Eleasar, die priester, en na Josua, die seun van Nun, en na die familiehoofde van die stamme van die Israeliete.

Die naam beteken stad van Arba; Arba was die vader van Enak.

וַיִּתְּנ֨וּ לָהֶ֜ם אֶת־קִרְיַת֩ אַרְבַּ֨ע אֲבִ֧י הָֽעֲנ֛וֹק הִ֥יא חֶבְר֖וֹן בְּהַ֣ר יְהוּדָ֑ה וְאֶת־מִגְרָשֶׁ֖הָ סְבִיבֹתֶֽיהָ׃They gave them Kiriath-arba (that is, Hebron), with its surrounding pasturelands, in the hill country of Judah. (Arba was the father of Anak.)

12Maar die veld van die stad en sy gehuggies het hulle aan Kaleb, die seun van Jefunne, gegee as sy besitting.וְאֶת־שְׂדֵ֥ה הָעִ֖יר וְאֶת־חֲצֵרֶ֑יהָ נָֽתְנ֛וּ לְכָלֵ֥ב בֶּן־יְפֻנֶּ֖ה בַּאֲחֻזָּתֽוֹ׃ סBut they had given the fields and villages around the city to Caleb son of Jephunneh as his possession.

27En aan die seuns van Gersonne, uit die geslagte van die Leviete, uit die halwe stam van Manasse: die toevluchtstad vir die moordenaar, in Basan, met sy weiveld, en Beëstera met sy weiveld: twee stede.

41Al die stede van die Leviete in die midde van die besitting van die Israeliete was 48 stede met hulle weivelde.כֹּ֚ל עָרֵ֣י הַלְוִיִּ֔ם בְּת֖וֹךְ אֲחֻזַּ֣ת בְּנֵֽי־יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל עָרִ֛ים אַרְבָּעִ֥ים וּשְׁמֹנֶ֖ה וּמִגְרְשֵׁיהֶֽן׃For the Levites, then, there were forty-eight cities in all, together with their pasturelands, within the territory of the Israelites. 42Hierdie stede was elkeen 'n stad met sy weivelde daar rondom; so was dit met al hierdie stede.

תִּֽהְיֶ֨ינָה֙ הֶעָרִ֣ים הָאֵ֔לֶּה עִ֣יר עִ֔יר וּמִגְרָשֶׁ֖יהָ סְבִיבֹתֶ֑יהָ כֵּ֖ן לְכָל־הֶעָרִ֥ים הָאֵֽלֶּה׃ סEach of these cities had its own surrounding pasturelands; this was true for all the cities.

43So het die HERE aan Israel die hele land gegee wat Hy gesweer het om aan hulle vaders te gee, en hulle het dit in besit geneem en daarin gewoon.וַיִּתֵּ֤ן יְהוָה֙ לְיִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל אֶת־כָּל־הָאָ֔רֶץ אֲשֶׁ֥ר נִשְׁבַּ֖ע לָתֵ֣ת לַאֲבוֹתָ֑ם וַיִּרָשׁ֖וּהָ וַיֵּ֥שְׁבוּ בָֽהּ׃Thus the LORD gave Israel all the land He had sworn to give their fathers, and they took possession of it and settled in it. 44En die HERE het hulle rus gegee aan alle kante, volgens alles wat Hy aan hulle vaders gesweer het; en niemand van al hulle vyande het voor hulle standgehou nie; al hulle vyande het die HERE in hulle hand gegee.וַיָּ֨נַח יְהוָ֤ה לָהֶם֙ מִסָּבִ֔יב כְּכֹ֥ל אֲשֶׁר־נִשְׁבַּ֖ע לַאֲבוֹתָ֑ם וְלֹא־עָ֨מַד אִ֤ישׁ בִּפְנֵיהֶם֙ מִכָּל־אֹ֣יְבֵיהֶ֔ם אֵ֚ת כָּל־אֹ֣יְבֵיהֶ֔ם נָתַ֥ן יְהוָ֖ה בְּיָדָֽם׃And the LORD gave them rest on every side, just as He had sworn to their fathers. None of their enemies could stand against them, for the LORD delivered all their enemies into their hand. 45Geen woord het geval uit al die goeie woord wat die HERE aan die huis van Israel gespreek het nie; alles het gekom.לֹֽא־נָפַ֣ל דָּבָ֔ר מִכֹּל֙ הַדָּבָ֣ר הַטּ֔וֹב אֲשֶׁר־דִּבֶּ֥ר יְהוָ֖ה אֶל־בֵּ֣ית יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל הַכֹּ֖ל בָּֽא׃ פNot one of all the LORD’s good promises to the house of Israel had failed; everything was fulfilled.
