Then the whole council rose and led Jesus away to Pilate. 2Hulle het Hom begin beskuldig en gesê: “Ons het gevind dat hierdie een ons nasie verdraai en verhinder om belasting aan die keiser te gee, en dat Hy van Homself sê Hy is Christus, ’n koning.”ἤρξαντο δὲ κατηγορεῖν αὐτοῦ λέγοντες· Τοῦτον εὕραμεν διαστρέφοντα τὸ ἔθνος ⸀ἡμῶν καὶ κωλύοντα ⸂φόρους Καίσαρι⸃ διδόναι ⸀καὶ λέγοντα ⸀αὑτὸν χριστὸν βασιλέα εἶναι.And they began to accuse Him, saying, “We found this man subverting our nation, forbidding payment of taxes to Caesar, and proclaiming Himself to be Christ, a King.” 3Pilatus het Hom gevra en gesê: “Is U die koning van die Jode?” So Pilate asked Him, “Are You the King of the Jews?” “You have said so,” Jesus replied. 4Pilatus het vir die leierpriesters en die skares gesê: “Ek vind geen skuld in hierdie mens nie.”ὁ δὲ Πιλᾶτος εἶπεν πρὸς τοὺς ἀρχιερεῖς καὶ τοὺς ὄχλους· Οὐδὲν εὑρίσκω αἴτιον ἐν τῷ ἀνθρώπῳ τούτῳ.Then Pilate said to the chief priests and the crowds, “I find no basis for a charge against this man.” 5Maar hulle het sterker aangedring en gesê: “Hy hits die volk op deur in die hele Judea te leer, en Hy het van Galilea af begin, tot hier toe.”οἱ δὲ ἐπίσχυον λέγοντες ὅτι Ἀνασείει τὸν λαὸν διδάσκων καθʼ ὅλης τῆς Ἰουδαίας, ⸀καὶ ἀρξάμενος ἀπὸ τῆς Γαλιλαίας ἕως ὧδε.But they kept insisting, “He stirs up the people all over Judea with His teaching. He began in Galilee and has come all the way here.”
6Toe Pilatus dit hoor, het hy gevra of die mens ’n Galileër is,Πιλᾶτος δὲ ⸀ἀκούσας ἐπηρώτησεν εἰ ὁ ἄνθρωπος Γαλιλαῖός ἐστιν,When Pilate heard this, he asked if the man was a Galilean. 7en toe hy verneem dat Hy onder die gesag van Herodes is, het hy Hom na Herodes gestuur, wat self ook in daardie dae in Jerusalem was.καὶ ἐπιγνοὺς ὅτι ἐκ τῆς ἐξουσίας Ἡρῴδου ἐστὶν ἀνέπεμψεν αὐτὸν πρὸς Ἡρῴδην, ὄντα καὶ αὐτὸν ἐν Ἱεροσολύμοις ἐν ταύταις ταῖς ἡμέραις.And learning that Jesus was under Herod’s jurisdiction, he sent Him to Herod, who himself was in Jerusalem at that time.
When Herod saw Jesus, he was greatly pleased. He had wanted to see Him for a long time, because he had heard about Him and was hoping to see Him perform a miracle.
Herod questioned Jesus at great length, but He gave no answer. Meanwhile, the chief priests and scribes stood there, vehemently accusing Him. 11Herodes het Hom saam met sy troepe ook verag en bespot, Hom ’n skitterende kleed omgehang en Hom na Pilatus teruggestuur.ἐξουθενήσας δὲ αὐτὸν ⸀καὶ ὁ Ἡρῴδης σὺν τοῖς στρατεύμασιν αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐμπαίξας ⸀περιβαλὼν ἐσθῆτα λαμπρὰν ἀνέπεμψεν αὐτὸν τῷ Πιλάτῳ.And even Herod and his soldiers ridiculed and mocked Him. Dressing Him in a fine robe, they sent Him back to Pilate. 12En Herodes en Pilatus het op dieselfde dag vriende met mekaar geword, want hulle was voorheen in vyandskap teenoor mekaar.ἐγένοντο δὲ φίλοι ὅ τε ⸂Ἡρῴδης καὶ ὁ Πιλᾶτος⸃ ἐν αὐτῇ τῇ ἡμέρᾳ μετʼ ἀλλήλων· προϋπῆρχον γὰρ ἐν ἔχθρᾳ ὄντες πρὸς ⸀αὑτούς.That day Herod and Pilate became friends; before this time they had been enemies.
13Pilatus het die leierpriesters en die leiers en die volk bymekaargeroepΠιλᾶτος δὲ συγκαλεσάμενος τοὺς ἀρχιερεῖς καὶ τοὺς ἄρχοντας καὶ τὸν λαὸνThen Pilate called together the chief priests, the rulers, and the people, 14en vir hulle gesê: “Julle het hierdie mens by my gebring as een wat die volk afkeer, en kyk, ek het Hom in julle teenwoordigheid ondervra en by hierdie mens geen skuld gevind van wat julle teen Hom beskuldig nie.εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτούς· Προσηνέγκατέ μοι τὸν ἄνθρωπον τοῦτον ὡς ἀποστρέφοντα τὸν λαόν, καὶ ἰδοὺ ἐγὼ ἐνώπιον ὑμῶν ἀνακρίνας ⸀οὐθὲν εὗρον ἐν τῷ ἀνθρώπῳ τούτῳ αἴτιον ὧν κατηγορεῖτε κατʼ αὐτοῦ.and said to them, “You brought me this man as one who was inciting the people to rebellion. I have examined Him here in your presence and found Him not guilty of your charges against Him. 15Maar ook Herodes nie, want hy het Hom na ons teruggestuur; en kyk, niks wat die dood werd is, is deur Hom gedoen nie.
ἀλλʼ οὐδὲ Ἡρῴδης, ⸂ἀνέπεμψεν γὰρ αὐτὸν πρὸς ἡμᾶς⸃· καὶ ἰδοὺ οὐδὲν ἄξιον θανάτου ἐστὶν πεπραγμένον αὐτῷ·Neither has Herod, for he sent Him back to us. As you can see, He has done nothing deserving of death.
16Ek sal Hom dus tugtig en vrylaat.”παιδεύσας οὖν αὐτὸν ⸀ἀπολύσω.Therefore I will punish Him and release Him.” 17Hierdie vers kom nie in die grondteks voor nie.
18Maar hulle het almal saam uitgeroep en gesê: “Neem hierdie een weg, en laat vir ons Barabbas los!”⸀Ἀνέκραγον δὲ παμπληθεὶ λέγοντες· Αἶρε τοῦτον, ἀπόλυσον δὲ ἡμῖν ⸀τὸν Βαραββᾶν·But they all cried out in unison: “Away with this man! Release Barabbas to us!” 19Hy was een wat oor ’n sekere oproer wat in die stad plaasgevind het, en oor moord, in die gevangenis gegooi is.ὅστις ἦν διὰ στάσιν τινὰ γενομένην ἐν τῇ πόλει καὶ φόνον ⸂βληθεὶς ἐν τῇ φυλακῇ⸃.(Barabbas had been imprisoned for an insurrection in the city, and for murder.) 20Pilatus het hulle weer toegespreek, omdat hy Jesus wou vrylaat.πάλιν ⸀δὲ ὁ Πιλᾶτος ⸀προσεφώνησεν, θέλων ἀπολῦσαι τὸν Ἰησοῦν.Wanting to release Jesus, Pilate addressed them again, 21Maar hulle het geskreeu en gesê: “Kruisig, kruisig Hom!”οἱ δὲ ἐπεφώνουν λέγοντες· ⸂Σταύρου σταύρου⸃ αὐτόν.but they kept shouting, “Crucify Him! A third time he said to them, “What evil has this man done? I have found in Him no offense worthy of death.
But they were insistent, demanding with loud voices for Jesus to be crucified. And their clamor prevailed.
24En Pilatus het die uitspraak gegee dat hulle eis uitgevoer word.⸀καὶ Πιλᾶτος ἐπέκρινεν γενέσθαι τὸ αἴτημα αὐτῶν·So Pilate sentenced that their demand be met. 25Hy het die een wat oor oproer en moord in die gevangenis gegooi is, vir wie hulle gevra het, vrygelaat, maar Jesus aan hulle wil oorgegee.ἀπέλυσεν δὲ τὸν διὰ στάσιν καὶ φόνον βεβλημένον ⸀εἰς φυλακὴν ὃν ᾐτοῦντο, τὸν δὲ Ἰησοῦν παρέδωκεν τῷ θελήματι αὐτῶν.As they had requested, he released the one imprisoned for insurrection and murder, and he handed Jesus over to their will.
As the soldiers led Him away, they seized Simon of Cyrene on his way in from the country, and they put the cross on him to carry behind Jesus.
A great number of people followed Him, including women who kept mourning and wailing for Him.
28Maar Jesus het na hulle omgedraai en gesê: “Dogters van Jerusalem, moenie oor My huil nie; huil eerder oor julleself en oor julle kinders,στραφεὶς δὲ πρὸς αὐτὰς ⸀ὁ Ἰησοῦς εἶπεν· Θυγατέρες Ἰερουσαλήμ, μὴ κλαίετε ἐπʼ ἐμέ· πλὴν ἐφʼ ἑαυτὰς κλαίετε καὶ ἐπὶ τὰ τέκνα ὑμῶν,But Jesus turned to them and said, “Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for Me, but weep for yourselves and for your children. 29want kyk, daar kom dae waarin hulle sal sê: ‘Gelukkig is die onvrugbares en die skote wat nie gebaar het nie en die borste wat nie gevoed het nie.’ὅτι ἰδοὺ ἔρχονται ἡμέραι ἐν αἷς ἐροῦσιν Μακάριαι αἱ στεῖραι καὶ ⸀αἱ κοιλίαι αἳ οὐκ ἐγέννησαν καὶ μαστοὶ οἳ οὐκ ⸀ἔθρεψαν.Look, the days are coming when people will say, ‘Blessed are the barren women, the wombs that never bore, and breasts that never nursed!’ 30Dan sal hulle begin om vir die berge te sê: ‘Val op ons,’ en vir die heuwels: ‘Bedek ons.’
aAanhaling uit Hosea 10:8.
τότε ἄρξονται λέγειν τοῖς ὄρεσιν· Πέσετε ἐφʼ ἡμᾶς, καὶ τοῖς βουνοῖς· Καλύψατε ἡμᾶς·At that time ‘they will say to the mountains, “Fall on us!” and to the hills, “Cover us!”’
ὅτι εἰ ἐν ⸀τῷ ὑγρῷ ξύλῳ ταῦτα ποιοῦσιν, ἐν τῷ ξηρῷ τί γένηται;For if men do these things while the tree is green, what will happen when it is dry?”
32Ook twee ander, misdadigers, is saam met Hom weggelei om tereggestel te word.Ἤγοντο δὲ καὶ ἕτεροι ⸂κακοῦργοι δύο⸃ σὺν αὐτῷ ἀναιρεθῆναι.Two others, who were criminals, were also led away to be executed with Jesus. 33En toe hulle by die plek kom wat Skedel genoem word, het hulle Hom daar gekruisig, en die misdadigers, die een aan die regterkant en die ander aan die linkerkant.καὶ ὅτε ⸀ἦλθον ἐπὶ τὸν τόπον τὸν καλούμενον Κρανίον, ἐκεῖ ἐσταύρωσαν αὐτὸν καὶ τοὺς κακούργους, ὃν μὲν ἐκ δεξιῶν ὃν δὲ ἐξ ἀριστερῶν.When they came to the place called The Skull, they crucified Him there, along with the criminals, one on His right and the other on His left. Then Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” And they divided up His garments by casting lots.
The people stood watching, and the rulers sneered at Him, saying, “He saved others; let Him save Himself if He is the Christ of God, the Chosen One.” 36Ook die soldate het Hom bespot toe hulle nader kom en Hom suurwyn aanbied⸀ἐνέπαιξαν δὲ αὐτῷ καὶ οἱ στρατιῶται προσερχόμενοι, ⸀ὄξος προσφέροντες αὐτῷThe soldiers also mocked Him and came up to offer Him sour wine. 37en sê: “As jy die koning van die Jode is, red jouself.”καὶ λέγοντες· Εἰ σὺ εἶ ὁ βασιλεὺς τῶν Ἰουδαίων, σῶσον σεαυτόν.“If You are the King of the Jews,” they said, “save Yourself!” 38Daar was ook ’n opskrif bo Hom: Hierdie is die koning van die Jode.
Above Him was posted an inscription: THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.
One of the criminals who hung there heaped abuse on Him. “Are You not the Christ?” he said. “Save Yourself and us!”
40Maar die ander een het hom bestraf en gesê: “Vrees jy nie eens God nie, aangesien jy onder dieselfde oordeel is?ἀποκριθεὶς δὲ ὁ ἕτερος ⸂ἐπιτιμῶν αὐτῷ ἔφη⸃· Οὐδὲ φοβῇ σὺ τὸν θεόν, ὅτι ἐν τῷ αὐτῷ κρίματι εἶ;But the other one rebuked him, saying, “Do you not even fear God, since you are under the same judgment? 41En ons wel tereg, want ons ontvang wat ons dade werd is; maar hierdie een het niks verkeerds gedoen nie.”καὶ ἡμεῖς μὲν δικαίως, ἄξια γὰρ ὧν ἐπράξαμεν ἀπολαμβάνομεν· οὗτος δὲ οὐδὲν ἄτοπον ἔπραξεν.We are punished justly, for we are receiving what our actions deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong.” 42En hy het gesê: “Jesus, dink aan my wanneer U in U koninkryk kom.”
aSommige manuskripte lees: En hy het vir Jesus gesê: “Here, dink aan my wanneer U in U koninkryk kom.”
Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when You come into Your kingdom!”
43En Hy het vir hom gesê: “Voorwaar, Ek sê vir jou, vandag sal jy saam met My in die paradys wees.”καὶ εἶπεν ⸀αὐτῷ· Ἀμήν ⸂σοι λέγω⸃ σήμερον μετʼ ἐμοῦ ἔσῃ ἐν τῷ παραδείσῳ.And Jesus said to him, “Truly I tell you, today you will be with Me in Paradise.”
⸂Καὶ ἦν⸃ ⸀ἤδη ὡσεὶ ὥρα ἕκτη καὶ σκότος ἐγένετο ἐφʼ ὅλην τὴν γῆν ἕως ὥρας ἐνάτηςIt was now about the sixth hour, and darkness came over all the land until the ninth hour.
The sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple was torn down the middle.
Then Jesus called out in a loud voice, “Father, into Your hands I commit My Spirit.” And when He had said this, He breathed His last.
47Toe die hoofman oor honderd sien wat gebeur het, het hy God verheerlik en gesê: “Werklik, hierdie mens was regverdig.”Ἰδὼν δὲ ὁ ἑκατοντάρχης τὸ γενόμενον ⸀ἐδόξαζεν τὸν θεὸν λέγων· Ὄντως ὁ ἄνθρωπος οὗτος δίκαιος ἦν.When the centurion saw what had happened, he gave glory to God, saying, “Surely this was a righteous man. And when all the people who had gathered for this spectacle saw what had happened, they returned home beating their breasts. But all those who knew Jesus, including the women who had followed Him from Galilee, stood at a distance watching these things.
50En kyk, daar was ’n man met die naam Josef, ’n raadslid, ’n goeie en regverdige man –Καὶ ἰδοὺ ἀνὴρ ὀνόματι Ἰωσὴφ βουλευτὴς ὑπάρχων, ⸀ἀνὴρ ἀγαθὸς καὶ δίκαιος—Now there was a Council member named Joseph, a good and righteous man, 51hy het nie ingestem met hulle raad en hulle optrede nie—van Arimatea, ’n stad van die Jode, wat die koninkryk van God verwag het.οὗτος οὐκ ἦν συγκατατεθειμένος τῇ βουλῇ καὶ τῇ πράξει αὐτῶν— ἀπὸ Ἁριμαθαίας πόλεως τῶν Ἰουδαίων, ὃς ⸀προσεδέχετο τὴν βασιλείαν τοῦ θεοῦ,who had not consented to their decision or action. He was from the Judean town of Arimathea and was waiting for the kingdom of God. 52hy het na Pilatus gegaan en om die liggaam van Jesus gevra.οὗτος προσελθὼν τῷ Πιλάτῳ ᾐτήσατο τὸ σῶμα τοῦ Ἰησοῦ,He went to Pilate to ask for the body of Jesus. 53en nadat hy dit afgehaal het, het hy dit in ’n linnedoek toegedraai en Hom neergelê in ’n uitgehakte graf waarin nog niemand gelê het nie.καὶ ⸀καθελὼν ἐνετύλιξεν αὐτὸ σινδόνι, καὶ ἔθηκεν ⸀αὐτὸν ἐν μνήματι λαξευτῷ οὗ οὐκ ἦν ⸂οὐδεὶς οὔπω⸃ κείμενος.Then he took it down, wrapped it in a linen cloth, and placed it in a tomb cut into the rock, where no one had yet been laid. 54En dit was die dag van voorbereiding, en die sabbat was aan die aanbreek.καὶ ἡμέρα ἦν ⸂παρασκευῆς, καὶ⸃ σάββατον ἐπέφωσκεν.It was Preparation Day, and the Sabbath was beginning. 55Die vroue wat saam met Hom van Galilea af gekom het, het agterna gevolg en die graf gesien, en hoe Sy liggaam neergelê is.κατακολουθήσασαι δὲ ⸀αἱ γυναῖκες, αἵτινες ἦσαν συνεληλυθυῖαι ⸂ἐκ τῆς Γαλιλαίας αὐτῷ⸃, ἐθεάσαντο τὸ μνημεῖον καὶ ὡς ἐτέθη τὸ σῶμα αὐτοῦ,The women who had come with Jesus from Galilee followed, and they saw the tomb and how His body was placed. En op die sabbat het hulle gerus volgens die gebod,ὑποστρέψασαι δὲ ἡτοίμασαν ἀρώματα καὶ μύρα. Καὶ τὸ μὲν σάββατον ἡσύχασαν κατὰ τὴν ἐντολήν,Then they returned to prepare spices and perfumes. And they rested on the Sabbath, according to the commandment.
