One Sabbath Jesus was passing through the grainfields, and His disciples began to pick the heads of grain, rub them in their hands, and eat them.
2Maar sommige van die Fariseërs het gesê: “Waarom doen julle wat op die sabbatte nie toegelaat is nie?”τινὲς δὲ τῶν Φαρισαίων ⸀εἶπαν· Τί ποιεῖτε ὃ οὐκ ⸀ἔξεστιν τοῖς σάββασιν;But some of the Pharisees asked, “Why are you doing what is unlawful on the Sabbath?” 3En Jesus het hulle geantwoord en gesê: “Het julle nie eens dit gelees wat Dawid gedoen het toe hy honger geword het nie, hy en dié wat by hom was,καὶ ἀποκριθεὶς πρὸς αὐτοὺς εἶπεν ὁ Ἰησοῦς· Οὐδὲ τοῦτο ἀνέγνωτε ὃ ἐποίησεν Δαυὶδ ⸀ὁπότε ἐπείνασεν αὐτὸς καὶ οἱ μετʼ αὐτοῦ ⸀ὄντες;Jesus replied, “Have you not read what David did when he and his companions were hungry? 4hoe hy in die huis van God ingegaan het en die brode van die voorlegging geneem en geëet en aan dié by hom gegee het, wat niemand mag eet nie, behalwe net die priesters?”⸀ὡς εἰσῆλθεν εἰς τὸν οἶκον τοῦ θεοῦ καὶ τοὺς ἄρτους τῆς προθέσεως ⸀λαβὼν ἔφαγεν καὶ ⸀ἔδωκεν τοῖς μετʼ αὐτοῦ, οὓς οὐκ ἔξεστιν φαγεῖν εἰ μὴ μόνους τοὺς ἱερεῖς;He entered the house of God, took the consecrated bread and gave it to his companions, and ate what is lawful only for the priests to eat.” 5En Hy het vir hulle gesê: “Die Seun van die mens is Here van die sabbat.”
καὶ ἔλεγεν ⸀αὐτοῖς· Κύριός ἐστιν ⸂τοῦ σαββάτου ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου⸃.Then Jesus declared, “The Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath.”
6En dit het gebeur op 'n ander sabbat dat Hy in die sinagoge ingegaan en geleer het; en 'n mens was daar, en sy regterhand was verdor.Ἐγένετο ⸀δὲ ἐν ἑτέρῳ σαββάτῳ εἰσελθεῖν αὐτὸν εἰς τὴν συναγωγὴν καὶ διδάσκειν· καὶ ἦν ⸂ἄνθρωπος ἐκεῖ⸃ καὶ ἡ χεὶρ αὐτοῦ ἡ δεξιὰ ἦν ξηρά·On another Sabbath Jesus entered the synagogue and was teaching, and a man was there whose right hand was withered. 7Die skrifgeleerdes en die Fariseërs het egter fyn dopgehou of Hy op die sabbat genees, sodat hulle iets kon vind om Hom aan te kla.⸀παρετηροῦντο ⸀δὲ οἱ γραμματεῖς καὶ οἱ Φαρισαῖοι εἰ ἐν τῷ σαββάτῳ ⸀θεραπεύει, ἵνα εὕρωσιν ⸀κατηγορεῖν αὐτοῦ.Looking for a reason to accuse Jesus, the scribes and Pharisees were watching Him closely to see if He would heal on the Sabbath. But Jesus knew their thoughts and said to the man with the withered hand, “Get up and stand among us.” So he got up and stood there.
εἶπεν ⸀δὲ ὁ Ἰησοῦς πρὸς αὐτούς· ⸀Ἐπερωτῶ ὑμᾶς, ⸀εἰ ἔξεστιν ⸂τῷ σαββάτῳ⸃ ἀγαθοποιῆσαι ἢ κακοποιῆσαι, ψυχὴν σῶσαι ἢ ⸀ἀπολέσαι;Then Jesus said to them, “I ask you, which is lawful on the Sabbath: to do good or to do evil, to save life or to destroy it?”
And after looking around at all of them, He said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” He did so, and it was restored.
But the scribes and Pharisees were filled with rage and began to discuss with one another what they might do to Jesus.
In those days Jesus went out to the mountain to pray, and He spent the night in prayer to God.
13En toe dit dag geword het, het Hy Sy dissipels na Hom toe geroep, en uit hulle twaalf gekies, wat Hy ook apostels genoem het:καὶ ὅτε ἐγένετο ἡμέρα, προσεφώνησεν τοὺς μαθητὰς αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἐκλεξάμενος ἀπʼ αὐτῶν δώδεκα, οὓς καὶ ἀποστόλους ὠνόμασεν,When daylight came, He called His disciples to Him and chose twelve of them, whom He also designated as apostles: 14Simon, wat Hy ook Petrus genoem het, en Andreas, sy broer, en Jakobus en Johannes en Filippus en Bartolomeus,Σίμωνα ὃν καὶ ὠνόμασεν Πέτρον καὶ Ἀνδρέαν τὸν ἀδελφὸν αὐτοῦ ⸀καὶ Ἰάκωβον καὶ Ἰωάννην ⸁καὶ Φίλιππον καὶ ΒαρθολομαῖονSimon, whom He named Peter, and his brother Andrew; James and John; Philip and Bartholomew; 15en Matteus en Tomas en Jakobus, die seun van Alfeus, en Simon wat die Seloot genoem word,⸀καὶ Μαθθαῖον καὶ Θωμᾶν ⸁καὶ ⸀Ἰάκωβον Ἁλφαίου καὶ Σίμωνα τὸν καλούμενον ΖηλωτὴνMatthew and Thomas; James son of Alphaeus and Simon called the Zealot; 16en Judas, die seun van Jakobus, en Judas Iskariot, wat 'n verraaier geword het.
aOf: Judas, die broer van Jakobus.
Judas son of James, and Judas Iscariot, who became a traitor.
17En Hy het saam met hulle afgegaan en op 'n gelyk plek gaan staan, en 'n groot skare van sy dissipels, en 'n groot menigte van die volk uit die hele Judea en Jerusalem en die kusstreek van Tirus en Sidon,Καὶ καταβὰς μετʼ αὐτῶν ἔστη ἐπὶ τόπου πεδινοῦ, καὶ ὄχλος ⸀πολὺς μαθητῶν αὐτοῦ, καὶ πλῆθος πολὺ τοῦ λαοῦ ἀπὸ πάσης τῆς Ἰουδαίας καὶ Ἰερουσαλὴμ καὶ τῆς παραλίου Τύρου καὶ Σιδῶνος,Then Jesus came down with them and stood on a level place. A large crowd of His disciples was there, along with a great number of people from all over Judea, Jerusalem, and the seacoast of Tyre and Sidon. 18wat gekom het om Hom te hoor en van hulle siektes genees te word; en dié wat deur onreine geeste gekwel is, is genees.οἳ ἦλθον ἀκοῦσαι αὐτοῦ καὶ ἰαθῆναι ἀπὸ τῶν νόσων αὐτῶν· καὶ οἱ ⸂ἐνοχλούμενοι ἀπὸ⸃ πνευμάτων ⸀ἀκαθάρτων ἐθεραπεύοντο·They had come to hear Him and to be healed of their diseases, and those troubled by unclean spirits were healed. The entire crowd was trying to touch Him, because power was coming from Him and healing them all.
20En Hy het Sy oë na Sy dissipels opgeslaan en gesê: “Gelukkig is die armes, want julle s'n is die koninkryk van God.Καὶ αὐτὸς ἐπάρας τοὺς ὀφθαλμοὺς αὐτοῦ εἰς τοὺς μαθητὰς αὐτοῦ ἔλεγεν· Μακάριοι οἱ πτωχοί, ὅτι ὑμετέρα ἐστὶν ἡ βασιλεία τοῦ θεοῦ.Looking up at His disciples, Jesus said: “Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God. 21Gelukkig is dié wat nou honger ly, want julle sal versadig word. Gelukkig is dié wat nou huil, want julle sal lag.μακάριοι οἱ πεινῶντες νῦν, ὅτι χορτασθήσεσθε. Blessed are you who hunger now, for you will be filled. Blessed are you who weep now, for you will laugh. 22Gelukkig is julle wanneer die mense julle haat, en wanneer hulle julle uitsluit en beledig en julle naam as kwaad uitwerp ter wille van die Seun van die mens.Μακάριοί ἐστε ὅταν μισήσωσιν ὑμᾶς οἱ ἄνθρωποι, καὶ ὅταν ἀφορίσωσιν ὑμᾶς καὶ ὀνειδίσωσιν καὶ ἐκβάλωσιν τὸ ὄνομα ὑμῶν ὡς πονηρὸν ἕνεκα τοῦ υἱοῦ τοῦ ἀνθρώπου·Blessed are you when people hate you, and when they exclude you and insult you and reject your name as evil because of the Son of Man. 23Wees bly op daardie dag en spring van vreugde, want kyk, julle loon is groot in die hemel; want hulle vaders het dieselfde aan die profete gedoen.
aLetterlik: spring.
Rejoice in that day and leap for joy, because great is your reward in heaven. For their fathers treated the prophets in the same way.
But woe to you who are rich, for you have already received your comfort. 25Wee julle wat nou versadig is, want julle sal honger ly. Woe to you who are well fed now, for you will hunger. Woe to you who laugh now, for you will mourn and weep. Woe to you when all men speak well of you, for their fathers treated the false prophets in the same way.
27Maar vir julle wat luister, sê Ek: Het julle vyande lief, doen goed aan dié wat julle haat,Ἀλλὰ ὑμῖν λέγω τοῖς ἀκούουσιν, ἀγαπᾶτε τοὺς ἐχθροὺς ὑμῶν, καλῶς ποιεῖτε τοῖς μισοῦσιν ὑμᾶς,But to those of you who will listen, I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, 28seën dié wat julle vervloek, bid vir dié wat julle mishandel.εὐλογεῖτε τοὺς καταρωμένους ⸀ὑμᾶς, προσεύχεσθε ⸀περὶ τῶν ἐπηρεαζόντων ὑμᾶς.bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. If someone strikes you on one cheek, turn to him the other also. And if someone takes your cloak, do not withhold your tunic as well. 30Gee aan elkeen wat jou vra, en van hom wat jou goed wegneem, moet jy dit nie terugeis nie.⸀παντὶ αἰτοῦντί σε δίδου, καὶ ἀπὸ τοῦ αἴροντος τὰ σὰ μὴ ἀπαίτει.Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what is yours, do not demand it back. 31En soos julle wil hê dat die mense aan julle moet doen, doen net so aan hulle.καὶ καθὼς θέλετε ἵνα ποιῶσιν ὑμῖν οἱ ⸀ἄνθρωποι, ποιεῖτε αὐτοῖς ὁμοίως.Do to others as you would have them do to you. 32En as julle dié liefhet wat julle liefhet, watter dank is dit vir julle? If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners love those who love them. If you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do the same. And if you lend to those from whom you expect repayment, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, expecting to be repaid in full.
But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them, expecting nothing in return. Then your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High; for He is kind to the ungrateful and wicked.
36Wees barmhartig, soos julle Vader barmhartig is.⸀γίνεσθε οἰκτίρμονες ⸀καθὼς ὁ πατὴρ ὑμῶν οἰκτίρμων ἐστίν·Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful. Laat vry, en julle sal vrygelaat word.Καὶ μὴ κρίνετε, καὶ οὐ μὴ κριθῆτε· ⸀καὶ μὴ καταδικάζετε, καὶ οὐ μὴ καταδικασθῆτε. ἀπολύετε, καὶ ἀπολυθήσεσθε·Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven. 38gee, en aan julle sal gegee word: 'n goeie maat, ingedruk, geskud, oorlopend, sal hulle in julle skoot gee; want met die maat waarmee julle meet, sal vir julle teruggemeet word.”δίδοτε, καὶ δοθήσεται ὑμῖν· μέτρον καλὸν πεπιεσμένον ⸀σεσαλευμένον ὑπερεκχυννόμενον δώσουσιν εἰς τὸν κόλπον ὑμῶν· ⸂ᾧ γὰρ μέτρῳ⸃ μετρεῖτε ἀντιμετρηθήσεται ὑμῖν.Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you.”
Sal hulle nie albei in 'n kuil val nie?Εἶπεν δὲ ⸀καὶ παραβολὴν αὐτοῖς· Μήτι δύναται τυφλὸς τυφλὸν ὁδηγεῖν; οὐχὶ ἀμφότεροι εἰς βόθυνον ⸀ἐμπεσοῦνται;Jesus also told them a parable: “Can a blind man lead a blind man? Will they not both fall into a pit? 40'n Dissipel is nie bo die leermeester nie, maar elkeen wat volledig opgelei is, sal wees soos sy leermeester.οὐκ ἔστιν μαθητὴς ὑπὲρ τὸν ⸀διδάσκαλον, κατηρτισμένος δὲ πᾶς ἔσται ὡς ὁ διδάσκαλος αὐτοῦ.A disciple is not above his teacher, but everyone who is fully trained will be like his teacher. 41En waarom sien jy die splinter in die oog van jou broer, maar die balk in jou eie oog merk jy nie op nie?τί δὲ βλέπεις τὸ κάρφος τὸ ἐν τῷ ὀφθαλμῷ τοῦ ἀδελφοῦ σου, τὴν δὲ δοκὸν τὴν ἐν τῷ ἰδίῳ ὀφθαλμῷ οὐ κατανοεῖς;Why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye but fail to notice the beam in your own eye? Huigelaar, haal eers die balk uit jou oog uit, en dan sal jy duidelik sien om die splinter wat in die oog van jou broer is, uit te haal.⸀πῶς δύνασαι λέγειν τῷ ἀδελφῷ σου· Ἀδελφέ, ἄφες ἐκβάλω τὸ κάρφος τὸ ἐν τῷ ὀφθαλμῷ σου, αὐτὸς τὴν ἐν τῷ ὀφθαλμῷ σοῦ δοκὸν οὐ βλέπων; ὑποκριτά, ἔκβαλε πρῶτον τὴν δοκὸν ἐκ τοῦ ὀφθαλμοῦ σοῦ, καὶ τότε διαβλέψεις ⸂τὸ κάρφος τὸ ἐν τῷ ὀφθαλμῷ τοῦ ἀδελφοῦ σου ἐκβαλεῖν⸃.How can you say, ‘Brother, let me take the speck out of your eye,’ while you yourself fail to see the beam in your own eye? You hypocrite! First take the beam out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.
43Want daar is nie 'n goeie boom wat slegte vrug dra nie, en omgekeerd ook nie 'n slegte boom wat goeie vrug dra nie.Οὐ γάρ ἐστιν δένδρον καλὸν ποιοῦν καρπὸν σαπρόν, οὐδὲ ⸀πάλιν δένδρον σαπρὸν ποιοῦν καρπὸν καλόν.No good tree bears bad fruit, nor does a bad tree bear good fruit. 44Want elke boom word uit sy eie vrug geken; want van dorings versamel hulle nie vye nie, en uit 'n doringbos oes hulle nie 'n druiwetros nie.ἕκαστον γὰρ δένδρον ἐκ τοῦ ἰδίου καρποῦ γινώσκεται· οὐ γὰρ ἐξ ἀκανθῶν συλλέγουσιν σῦκα, οὐδὲ ἐκ βάτου ⸂σταφυλὴν τρυγῶσιν⸃.For each tree is known by its own fruit. Indeed, figs are not gathered from thornbushes, nor grapes from brambles.
The good man brings good things out of the good treasure of his heart, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil treasure of his heart. For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks.
46En waarom noem julle My: ‘Here, Here,’ en doen nie wat Ek sê nie?Τί δέ με καλεῖτε· Κύριε κύριε, καὶ οὐ ποιεῖτε ἃ λέγω;Why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord,’ but do not do what I say? 47Elkeen wat na My toe kom en My woorde hoor en dit doen — Ek sal julle wys aan wie hy gelyk is:πᾶς ὁ ἐρχόμενος πρός με καὶ ἀκούων μου τῶν λόγων καὶ ποιῶν αὐτούς, ὑποδείξω ὑμῖν τίνι ἐστὶν ὅμοιος·I will show you what he is like who comes to Me and hears My words and acts on them: 48hy is gelyk aan 'n mens wat 'n huis bou, wat gegrawe en dit diep gemaak en 'n fondament op die rots gelê het; en toe 'n vloed gekom het, het die rivier teen daardie huis gebreek, en dit het nie krag gehad om dit te skud nie, omdat dit goed gebou was.
ὅμοιός ἐστιν ἀνθρώπῳ οἰκοδομοῦντι οἰκίαν ὃς ἔσκαψεν καὶ ἐβάθυνεν καὶ ἔθηκεν θεμέλιον ἐπὶ τὴν πέτραν· πλημμύρης δὲ γενομένης προσέρηξεν ὁ ποταμὸς τῇ οἰκίᾳ ἐκείνῃ, καὶ οὐκ ἴσχυσεν σαλεῦσαι αὐτὴν ⸂διὰ τὸ καλῶς οἰκοδομῆσθαι αὐτήν⸃.He is like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid his foundation on the rock. When the flood came, the torrent crashed against that house but could not shake it, because it was well built.
49Maar hy wat gehoor het en nie gedoen het nie, is gelyk aan 'n mens wat 'n huis op die grond gebou het sonder fondament; teen dit het die rivier gebreek, en dit het dadelik ineengestort, en die verwoesting van daardie huis was groot.”ὁ δὲ ἀκούσας καὶ μὴ ποιήσας ὅμοιός ἐστιν ἀνθρώπῳ οἰκοδομήσαντι οἰκίαν ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν χωρὶς θεμελίου, ᾗ προσέρηξεν ὁ ποταμός, καὶ ⸂εὐθὺς συνέπεσεν⸃, καὶ ἐγένετο τὸ ῥῆγμα τῆς οἰκίας ἐκείνης μέγα.But the one who hears My words and does not act on them is like a man who built his house on ground without a foundation. The torrent crashed against that house, and immediately it fell—and great was its destruction!”
