1En God het al hierdie woorde gespreek en gesê:וַיְדַבֵּ֣ר אֱלֹהִ֔ים אֵ֛ת כָּל־הַדְּבָרִ֥ים הָאֵ֖לֶּה לֵאמֹֽר׃ סAnd God spoke all these words:2“Ek is die HERE jou God, wat jou uit die land Egipte, uit die huis van slawe, uitgelei het.אָֽנֹכִ֖י יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֶ֑יךָ אֲשֶׁ֧ר הוֹצֵאתִ֛יךָ מֵאֶ֥רֶץ מִצְרַ֖יִם מִבֵּ֥ית עֲבָדִֽים׃“I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.3Jy mag geen ander gode voor My aangesig hê nie.aOf: naas My.לֹֽ֣א יִהְיֶֽה־לְךָ֛ אֱלֹהִ֥ים אֲחֵרִ֖ים עַל־פָּנָֽיַ׃You shall have no other gods before Me.4Jy mag vir jou geen gesnede beeld maak nie, ook geen enkele afbeelding van wat bo in die hemel is en van wat onder op die aarde is en van wat in die water onder die aarde is.לֹֽ֣א תַֽעֲשֶׂ֨ה־לְךָ֥ פֶ֨סֶל֙ וְכָל־תְּמוּנָ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֤ר בַּשָּׁמַ֨יִם֙ מִמַּ֔עַל וַאֲשֶׁ֥ר בָּאָ֖רֶץ מִתָּ֑חַת וַאֲשֶׁ֥ר בַּמַּ֖יִם מִתַּ֥חַת לָאָֽרֶץ׃You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in the heavens above, on the earth below, or in the waters beneath.5Jy mag jou voor hulle nie neerbuig nie en hulle nie dien nie, want Ek, die HERE jou God, is 'n naywerige God wat die ongeregtigheid van vaders besoek oor kinders, oor die derde en oor die vierde geslag van dié wat My haat,לֹֽא־תִשְׁתַּחֲוֶ֥ה לָהֶ֖ם וְלֹ֣א תָעָבְדֵ֑ם כִּ֣י אָֽנֹכִ֞י יְהוָ֤ה אֱלֹהֶ֨יךָ֙ אֵ֣ל קַנָּ֔א פֹּ֠קֵד עֲוֺ֨ן אָבֹ֧ת עַל־בָּנִ֛ים עַל־שִׁלֵּשִׁ֥ים וְעַל־רִבֵּעִ֖ים לְשֹׂנְאָֽי׃You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on their children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me,6en wat troue liefde bewys aan duisende, aan dié wat My liefhet en My gebooie onderhou.וְעֹ֥שֶׂה חֶ֖סֶד לַאֲלָפִ֑ים לְאֹהֲבַ֖י וּלְשֹׁמְרֵ֥י מִצְוֺתָֽי׃ סbut showing loving devotion to a thousand generations of those who love Me and keep My commandments.7Jy mag die naam van die HERE jou God nie tevergeefs dra nie, want die HERE sal hom nie onskuldig hou nie wat Sy naam tevergeefs dra.aOf: Tevergeefs: of op 'n valse manier.לֹ֥א תִשָּׂ֛א אֶת־שֵֽׁם־יְהוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֶ֖יךָ לַשָּׁ֑וְא כִּ֣י לֹ֤א יְנַקֶּה֙ יְהוָ֔ה אֵ֛ת אֲשֶׁר־יִשָּׂ֥א אֶת־שְׁמ֖וֹ לַשָּֽׁוְא׃ פYou shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain, for the LORD will not leave anyone unpunished who takes His name in vain.
8Onthou die sabbatdag om dit te heilig.זָכ֛וֹר אֶת־י֥וֹם הַשַּׁבָּ֖ת לְקַדְּשֽׁוֹ׃Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy.9Ses dae moet jy werk en al jou arbeid verrig,שֵׁ֤שֶׁת יָמִים֙ תַּֽעֲבֹ֔ד וְעָשִׂ֖יתָ כָּל־מְלַאכְתֶּֽךָ׃Six days you shall labor and do all your work,10en die sewende dag is 'n sabbat vir die HERE jou God. Jy mag geen arbeid verrig nie, jy, of jou seun of jou dogter, jou slaaf of jou slavin, of jou vee, of jou vreemdeling wat binne jou poorte is nie.וְי֨וֹם֙ הַשְּׁבִיעִ֔י שַׁבָּ֖ת לַיהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֶ֑יךָ לֹֽ֣א־תַעֲשֶׂ֨ה כָל־מְלָאכָ֜ה אַתָּ֣ה׀ וּבִנְךָֽ֣־וּבִתֶּ֗ךָ עַבְדְּךָ֤ וַאֲמָֽתְךָ֙ וּבְהֶמְתֶּ֔ךָ וְגֵרְךָ֖ אֲשֶׁ֥ר בִּשְׁעָרֶֽיךָ׃but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God, on which you must not do any work—neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your manservant or maidservant or livestock, nor the foreigner within your gates.11Want in ses dae het die HERE die hemel en die aarde gemaak, die see en alles wat daarin is, en Hy het op die sewende dag gerus. Daarom het die HERE die sabbatdag geseën en dit geheilig.כִּ֣י שֵֽׁשֶׁת־יָמִים֩ עָשָׂ֨ה יְהוָ֜ה אֶת־הַשָּׁמַ֣יִם וְאֶת־הָאָ֗רֶץ אֶת־הַיָּם֙ וְאֶת־כָּל־אֲשֶׁר־בָּ֔ם וַיָּ֖נַח בַּיּ֣וֹם הַשְּׁבִיעִ֑י עַל־כֵּ֗ן בֵּרַ֧ךְ יְהוָ֛ה אֶת־י֥וֹם הַשַּׁבָּ֖ת וַֽיְקַדְּשֵֽׁהוּ׃ סFor in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth and the sea and all that is in them, but on the seventh day He rested. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and set it apart as holy.12Eer jou vader en jou moeder, sodat jou dae lank kan wees op die grond wat die HERE jou God aan jou gee.כַּבֵּ֥ד אֶת־אָבִ֖יךָ וְאֶת־אִמֶּ֑ךָ לְמַ֨עַן֙ יַאֲרִכ֣וּן יָמֶ֔יךָ עַ֚ל הָאֲדָמָ֔ה אֲשֶׁר־יְהוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֶ֖יךָ נֹתֵ֥ן לָֽךְ׃ סHonor your father and mother, so that your days may be long in the land that the LORD your God is giving you.
13Jy mag nie moord pleeg nie.לֹ֖א תִּרְצָֽח׃ סYou shall not murder.
14Jy mag nie egbreuk pleeg nie.לֹ֖א תִּנְאָֽף׃ סYou shall not commit adultery.
15Jy mag nie steel nie.לֹ֖א תִּגְנֹֽב׃ סYou shall not steal.16Jy mag teen jou naaste nie as valse getuie getuig nie.aLetterlik: Jy mag teen jou naaste nie as valse getuie antwoord nie.לֹֽא־תַעֲנֶ֥ה בְרֵעֲךָ֖ עֵ֥ד שָֽׁקֶר׃ סYou shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.17Jy mag jou naaste se huis nie begeer nie. Jy mag jou naaste se vrou nie begeer nie, ook nie sy slaaf en sy slavin en sy os en sy esel en alles wat aan jou naaste behoort nie.”לֹ֥א תַחְמֹ֖ד בֵּ֣ית רֵעֶ֑ךָ לֹֽא־תַחְמֹ֞ד אֵ֣שֶׁת רֵעֶ֗ךָ וְעַבְדּ֤וֹ וַאֲמָתוֹ֙ וְשׁוֹר֣וֹ וַחֲמֹר֔וֹ וְכֹ֖ל אֲשֶׁ֥ר לְרֵעֶֽךָ׃ פYou shall not covet your neighbor’s house. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his manservant or maidservant, or his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.”
18En die hele volk het die donderslae gesien en die fakkels en die geluid van die ramshoring en die berg wat rook. Toe die volk dit sien, het hulle gebewe en op 'n afstand gaan staan.aLetterlik: stemme.וְכָל־הָעָם֩ רֹאִ֨ים אֶת־הַקּוֹלֹ֜ת וְאֶת־הַלַּפִּידִ֗ם וְאֵת֙ ק֣וֹל הַשֹּׁפָ֔ר וְאֶת־הָהָ֖ר עָשֵׁ֑ן וַיַּ֤רְא הָעָם֙ וַיָּנֻ֔עוּ וַיַּֽעַמְד֖וּ מֵֽרָחֹֽק׃When all the people witnessed the thunder and lightning, the sounding of the ram’s horn, and the mountain enveloped in smoke, they trembled and stood at a distance.19Hulle het vir Moses gesê: “Spreek jy met ons, dan sal ons luister; maar laat God nie met ons spreek nie, anders sterf ons.”וַיֹּֽאמְרוּ֙ אֶל־מֹשֶׁ֔ה דַּבֵּר־אַתָּ֥ה עִמָּ֖נוּ וְנִשְׁמָ֑עָה וְאַל־יְדַבֵּ֥ר עִמָּ֛נוּ אֱלֹהִ֖ים פֶּן־נָמֽוּת׃“Speak to us yourself and we will listen,” they said to Moses. “But do not let God speak to us, or we will die.”20Toe het Moses vir die volk gesê: “Moenie vrees nie, want God het gekom om julle te toets, en sodat die vrees vir Hom voor julle aangesig sal wees, sodat julle nie sondig nie.”וַיֹּ֨אמֶר מֹשֶׁ֣ה אֶל־הָעָם֮ אַל־תִּירָאוּ֒ כִּ֗י לְבַֽעֲבוּר֙ נַסּ֣וֹת אֶתְכֶ֔ם בָּ֖א הָאֱלֹהִ֑ים וּבַעֲב֗וּר תִּהְיֶ֧ה יִרְאָת֛וֹ עַל־פְּנֵיכֶ֖ם לְבִלְתִּ֥י תֶחֱטָֽאוּ׃“Do not be afraid,” Moses replied. “For God has come to test you, so that the fear of Him may be before you, to keep you from sinning.”21En die volk het op 'n afstand bly staan, maar Moses het nader gegaan na die digte donkerte waar God was.וַיַּעֲמֹ֥ד הָעָ֖ם מֵרָחֹ֑ק וּמֹשֶׁה֙ נִגַּ֣שׁ אֶל־הָֽעֲרָפֶ֔ל אֲשֶׁר־שָׁ֖ם הָאֱלֹהִֽים׃ פAnd the people stood at a distance as Moses approached the thick darkness where God was.
22En die HERE het vir Moses gesê: “So moet jy vir die Israeliete sê: ‘Julle het self gesien dat Ek uit die hemel met julle gespreek het.וַיֹּ֤אמֶר יְהוָה֙ אֶל־מֹשֶׁ֔ה כֹּ֥ה תֹאמַ֖ר אֶל־בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל אַתֶּ֣ם רְאִיתֶ֔ם כִּ֚י מִן־הַשָּׁמַ֔יִם דִּבַּ֖רְתִּי עִמָּכֶֽם׃Then the LORD said to Moses, “This is what you are to tell the Israelites: ‘You have seen for yourselves that I have spoken to you from heaven.23Julle mag saam met My nie gode van silwer maak nie, en gode van goud mag julle nie vir julle maak nie.לֹ֥א תַעֲשׂ֖וּן אִתִּ֑י אֱלֹ֤הֵי כֶ֨סֶף֙ וֵאלֹהֵ֣י זָהָ֔ב לֹ֥א תַעֲשׂ֖וּ לָכֶֽם׃You are not to make any gods alongside Me; you are not to make for yourselves gods of silver or gold.24'n Altaar van grond moet jy vir My maak, en jy moet daarop jou brandoffers en jou vredeoffers offer, jou kleinvee en jou beeste. Op elke plek waar Ek My naam laat onthou, sal Ek na jou toe kom en jou seën.מִזְבַּ֣ח אֲדָמָה֮ תַּעֲשֶׂה־לִּי֒ וְזָבַחְתָּ֣ עָלָ֗יו אֶת־עֹלֹתֶ֨יךָ֙ וְאֶת־שְׁלָמֶ֔יךָ אֶת־צֹֽאנְךָ֖ וְאֶת־בְּקָרֶ֑ךָ בְּכָל־הַמָּקוֹם֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר אַזְכִּ֣יר אֶת־שְׁמִ֔י אָב֥וֹא אֵלֶ֖יךָ וּבֵרַכְתִּֽיךָ׃You are to make for Me an altar of earth, and sacrifice on it your burnt offerings and peace offerings, your sheep and goats and cattle. In every place where I cause My name to be remembered, I will come to you and bless you.25En as jy vir My 'n altaar van klippe maak, mag jy dit nie van gekapte klip bou nie, want jy het jou kapgereedskap daaroor geswaai en dit ontheilig.aLetterlik: jou swaard.וְאִם־מִזְבַּ֤ח אֲבָנִים֙ תַּֽעֲשֶׂה־לִּ֔י לֹֽא־תִבְנֶ֥ה אֶתְהֶ֖ן גָּזִ֑ית כִּ֧י חַרְבְּךָ֛ הֵנַ֥פְתָּ עָלֶ֖יהָ וַתְּחַֽלְלֶֽהָ׃Now if you make an altar of stones for Me, you must not build it with stones shaped by tools; for if you use a chisel on it, you will defile it.26En jy mag nie met trappe teen My altaar opgaan nie, sodat jou naaktheid nie daarop ontbloot word nie.’”וְלֹֽא־תַעֲלֶ֥ה בְמַעֲלֹ֖ת עַֽל־מִזְבְּחִ֑י אֲשֶׁ֛ר לֹֽא־תִגָּלֶ֥ה עֶרְוָתְךָ֖ עָלָֽיו׃ פAnd you must not go up to My altar on steps, lest your nakedness be exposed on it.’
