Then Moses answered, “What if they do not believe me or listen to my voice? For they may say, ‘The LORD has not appeared to you.’”2Toe sê die HERE vir hom: “Wat is dit in jou hand?” En hy sê: “’n Staf.” And the LORD asked him, “What is that in your hand?” וַיֹּ֨אמֶר֙ הַשְׁלִיכֵ֣הוּ אַ֔רְצָה וַיַּשְׁלִיכֵ֥הוּ אַ֖רְצָה וַיְהִ֣י לְנָחָ֑שׁ וַיָּ֥נָס מֹשֶׁ֖ה מִפָּנָֽיו׃“Throw it on the ground,” said the LORD. So Moses threw it on the ground, and it became a snake, and he ran from it.4En die HERE sê vir Moses: “Steek jou hand uit en gryp dit by die stert.” וַיֹּ֤אמֶר יְהוָה֙ אֶל־מֹשֶׁ֔ה שְׁלַח֙ יָֽדְךָ֔ וֶאֱחֹ֖ז בִּזְנָב֑וֹ וַיִּשְׁלַ֤ח יָדוֹ֙ וַיַּ֣חֲזֶק בּ֔וֹ וַיְהִ֥י לְמַטֶּ֖ה בְּכַפּֽוֹ׃“Stretch out your hand and grab it by the tail,” the LORD said to Moses, who reached out his hand and caught the snake, and it turned back into a staff in his hand.5“... sodat hulle kan glo dat die HERE aan jou verskyn het, die God van hulle vaders, die God van Abraham, die God van Isak en die God van Jakob.”לְמַ֣עַן יַאֲמִ֔ינוּ כִּֽי־נִרְאָ֥ה אֵלֶ֛יךָ יְהוָ֖ה אֱלֹהֵ֣י אֲבֹתָ֑ם אֱלֹהֵ֧י אַבְרָהָ֛ם אֱלֹהֵ֥י יִצְחָ֖ק וֵאלֹהֵ֥י יַעֲקֹֽב׃“This is so that they may believe that the LORD, the God of their fathers—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob—has appeared to you.”6Verder sê die HERE vir hom: “Steek tog jou hand in jou boesem.” Furthermore, the LORD said to Moses, “Put your hand inside your cloak. ” So he put his hand inside his cloak, and when he took it out, his hand was leprous, white as snow.7Toe sê Hy: “Sit jou hand weer in jou boesem terug.” וַיֹּ֗אמֶר הָשֵׁ֤ב יָֽדְךָ֙ אֶל־חֵיקֶ֔ךָ וַיָּ֥שֶׁב יָד֖וֹ אֶל־חֵיק֑וֹ וַיּֽוֹצִאָהּ֙ מֵֽחֵיק֔וֹ וְהִנֵּה־שָׁ֖בָה כִּבְשָׂרֽוֹ׃“Put your hand back inside your cloak,” said the LORD. So Moses put his hand back inside his cloak, and when he took it out, it was restored, like the rest of his skin.8“En as hulle jou nie glo nie en nie luister na die stem van die eerste teken nie, sal hulle die stem van die latere teken glo. And the LORD said, “If they refuse to believe you or heed the witness of the first sign, they may believe that of the second.9En as hulle selfs hierdie twee tekens nie glo nie en nie na jou stem luister nie, moet jy van die water van die Nyl neem en dit op die droë grond uitgooi; en die water wat jy uit die Nyl neem, sal bloed word op die droë grond.” But if they do not believe even these two signs or listen to your voice, take some water from the Nile and pour it on the dry ground. Then the water you take from the Nile will become blood on the ground.”10Toe sê Moses vir die HERE: “Ag, Here, ek is nie 'n man van woorde nie, ook nie van gister af nie, ook nie van eergister af nie, ook nie sedert U met U kneg gepraat het nie; want ek is swaar van mond en swaar van tong.”וַיֹּ֨אמֶר מֹשֶׁ֣ה אֶל־יְהוָה֮ בִּ֣י אֲדֹנָי֒ לֹא֩ אִ֨ישׁ דְּבָרִ֜ים אָנֹ֗כִי גַּ֤ם מִתְּמוֹל֙ גַּ֣ם מִשִּׁלְשֹׁ֔ם גַּ֛ם מֵאָ֥ז דַּבֶּרְךָ אֶל־עַבְדֶּ֑ךָ כִּ֧י כְבַד־פֶּ֛ה וּכְבַ֥ד לָשׁ֖וֹן אָנֹֽכִי׃“Please, Lord,” Moses replied, “I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor since You have spoken to Your servant, for I am slow of speech and tongue.”11Toe sê die HERE vir hom: “Wie het vir die mens ’n mond gemaak? Of wie maak stom of doof of siende of blind? Is dit nie Ek, die HERE nie? And the LORD said to him, “Who gave man his mouth? Or who makes the mute or the deaf, the sighted or the blind? Is it not I, the LORD?12En nou, gaan; en Ek sal met jou mond wees en jou leer wat jy moet sê.” Now go! I will help you as you speak, and I will teach you what to say.”13Maar hy sê: “Ag, Here, stuur tog wie U ook al wil stuur.”aLetterlik: stuur tog deur die hand wat U sal stuur. But Moses replied, “Please, Lord, send someone else.”
Then the anger of the LORD burned against Moses, and He said, “Is not Aaron the Levite your brother? I know that he can speak well, and he is now on his way to meet you. When he sees you, he will be glad in his heart.15En jy moet met hom praat en die woorde in sy mond sit; en Ek sal met jou mond en met sy mond wees en julle leer wat julle moet doen. You are to speak to him and put the words in his mouth. I will help both of you to speak, and I will teach you what to do.16Hy sal vir jou met die volk praat. So sal hy vir jou 'n mond wees, en jy sal vir hom 'n god wees.”aLetterlik: vir hom as God, of: vir hom tot gode. He will speak to the people for you. He will be your spokesman, and it will be as if you were God to him.17“En hierdie staf moet jy in jou hand neem, waarmee jy die tekens sal doen.” But take this staff in your hand so you can perform signs with it.”
Then Moses went back to his father-in-law Jethro and said to him, “Please let me return to my brothers in Egypt to see if they are still alive.” “Go in peace,” Jethro replied.19En die HERE sê in Midian vir Moses: “Gaan, keer terug na Egipte, want al die manne wat jou lewe soek, het gesterf.” Now the LORD had said to Moses in Midian, “Go back to Egypt, for all the men who sought to kill you are dead.”20Toe het Moses sy vrou en sy seuns geneem en hulle op die donkie laat ry en na die land Egipte teruggekeer; en Moses het die staf van God in sy hand geneem. So Moses took his wife and sons, put them on a donkey, and headed back to Egypt. The LORD instructed Moses, “When you go back to Egypt, see that you perform before Pharaoh all the wonders that I have put within your power. But I will harden his heart so that he will not let the people go.22En jy moet vir Farao sê: ‘So sê die HERE: My seun, My eersgeborene, is Israel. Then tell Pharaoh that this is what the LORD says: ‘Israel is My firstborn son,23En Ek het vir jou gesê: Laat My seun gaan, sodat hy My kan dien; maar jy het geweier om hom te laat gaan. Kyk, Ek maak jou seun, jou eersgeborene, dood.’ ”aOf: En Ek sê vir jou: Laat My seun gaan, sodat hy My kan dien. As jy weier om hom te laat gaan, kyk, Ek maak jou seun, jou eersgeborene, dood.וָאֹמַ֣ר אֵלֶ֗יךָ שַׁלַּ֤ח אֶת־בְּנִי֙ וְיַֽעַבְדֵ֔נִי וַתְּמָאֵ֖ן לְשַׁלְּח֑וֹ הִנֵּה֙ אָנֹכִ֣י הֹרֵ֔ג אֶת־בִּנְךָ֖ בְּכֹרֶֽךָ׃and I told you to let My son go so that he may worship Me. But since you have refused to let him go, behold, I will kill your firstborn son!’”
24En op die pad, by die oornagplek, het die HERE hom ontmoet en probeer om hom dood te maak. Now at a lodging place along the way, the LORD met Moses and was about to kill him.25Toe neem Sippora 'n skerp klip en sny die voorhuid van haar seun af en raak aan sy voete, en sê: “Waarlik, 'n bloedbruidegom is jy vir my.” But Zipporah took a flint knife, cut off her son’s foreskin, and touched it to Moses’ feet. “Surely you are a bridegroom of blood to me,” she said.26Toe het Hy van hom afgelaat. So the LORD let him alone. (When she said, “bridegroom of blood,” she was referring to the circumcision.)
Meanwhile, the LORD had said to Aaron, “Go and meet Moses in the wilderness.” So he went and met Moses at the mountain of God and kissed him.28En Moses vertel vir Aäron al die woorde van die HERE wat hom gestuur het, en al die tekens wat Hy hom beveel het. And Moses told Aaron everything the LORD had sent him to say, and all the signs He had commanded him to perform.29Toe het Moses en Aäron gegaan en al die ouderlinge van die Israeliete bymekaargemaak. Then Moses and Aaron went and assembled all the elders of the Israelites,30En Aäron het al die woorde gespreek wat die HERE met Moses gespreek het, en hy het die tekens voor die oë van die volk gedoen.וַיְדַבֵּ֣ר אַהֲרֹ֔ן אֵ֚ת כָּל־הַדְּבָרִ֔ים אֲשֶׁר־דִּבֶּ֥ר יְהוָ֖ה אֶל־מֹשֶׁ֑ה וַיַּ֥עַשׂ הָאֹתֹ֖ת לְעֵינֵ֥י הָעָֽם׃and Aaron relayed everything the LORD had said to Moses. And Moses performed the signs before the people,31En die volk het geglo; en hulle het gehoor dat die HERE die Israeliete besoek het en dat Hy hulle ellende gesien het. Toe het hulle gebuig en hulle neergewerp. And when they heard that the LORD had attended to the Israelites and had seen their affliction, they bowed down and worshiped.
