1En dit het gebeur, toe Jesus al hierdie woorde klaar gesê het, het Hy vir Sy dissipels gesê:Καὶ ἐγένετο ὅτε ἐτέλεσεν ὁ Ἰησοῦς πάντας τοὺς λόγους τούτους, εἶπεν τοῖς μαθηταῖς αὐτοῦ·When Jesus had finished saying all these things, He told His disciples,2“Julle weet dat die pasga oor twee dae plaasvind, en die Seun van die mens word oorgelewer om gekruisig te word.”Οἴδατε ὅτι μετὰ δύο ἡμέρας τὸ πάσχα γίνεται, καὶ ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου παραδίδοται εἰς τὸ σταυρωθῆναι.“You know that the Passover is two days away, and the Son of Man will be handed over to be crucified.”
3Toe het die leierpriesters en die oudstes van die volk bymekaargekom in die binnehof van die hoëpriester wat Kajafas genoem is,aSommige manuskripte lees: die leierpriesters en die skrifgeleerdes en die oudstes van die volk.Τότε συνήχθησαν οἱ ⸀ἀρχιερεῖς καὶ οἱ πρεσβύτεροι τοῦ λαοῦ εἰς τὴν αὐλὴν τοῦ ἀρχιερέως τοῦ λεγομένου Καϊάφα,At that time the chief priests and elders of the people assembled in the courtyard of the high priest, whose name was Caiaphas,4en hulle het saam beraadslaag sodat hulle Jesus met listigheid kon gryp en doodmaak.καὶ συνεβουλεύσαντο ἵνα τὸν Ἰησοῦν δόλῳ κρατήσωσιν καὶ ἀποκτείνωσιν·and they conspired to arrest Jesus covertly and kill Him.5Maar hulle het gesê: “Nie op die fees nie, sodat daar nie ’n oproer onder die volk kom nie.”ἔλεγον δέ· Μὴ ἐν τῇ ἑορτῇ, ἵνα μὴ θόρυβος γένηται ἐν τῷ λαῷ.“But not during the feast,” they said, “or there may be a riot among the people.”
6En toe Jesus in Betanië was, in die huis van Simon die melaatse,Τοῦ δὲ Ἰησοῦ γενομένου ἐν Βηθανίᾳ ἐν οἰκίᾳ Σίμωνος τοῦ λεπροῦ,While Jesus was in Bethany in the home of Simon the Leper,7het 'n vrou na Hom toe gekom wat 'n alabasterfles met baie duur salfolie gehad het, en sy het dit oor Sy kop uitgegiet terwyl Hy aan tafel gelê het.προσῆλθεν αὐτῷ γυνὴ ⸂ἔχουσα ἀλάβαστρον μύρου⸃ βαρυτίμου καὶ κατέχεεν ἐπὶ ⸂τῆς κεφαλῆς⸃ αὐτοῦ ἀνακειμένου.a woman came to Him with an alabaster jar of expensive perfume, which she poured on His head as He reclined at the table.8Toe die dissipels dit sien, was hulle verontwaardig en het gesê: “Waarvoor is hierdie verspilling?”ἰδόντες δὲ οἱ ⸀μαθηταὶ ἠγανάκτησαν λέγοντες· Εἰς τί ἡ ἀπώλεια αὕτη;When the disciples saw this, they were indignant and asked, “Why this waste?9Want dit kon duur verkoop en aan armes gegee word.”ἐδύνατο γὰρ ⸀τοῦτο πραθῆναι πολλοῦ καὶ δοθῆναι πτωχοῖς.This perfume could have been sold at a high price, and the money given to the poor.”10Maar Jesus het dit agtergekom en vir hulle gesê: “Waarom maak julle dit vir die vrou moeilik? Want 'n goeie werk het sy vir My gedoen;γνοὺς δὲ ὁ Ἰησοῦς εἶπεν αὐτοῖς· Τί κόπους παρέχετε τῇ γυναικί; ἔργον γὰρ καλὸν ἠργάσατο εἰς ἐμέ·Aware of this, Jesus asked, “Why are you bothering this woman? She has done a beautiful deed to Me.11want die armes het julle altyd by julleself, maar My het julle nie altyd nie.”πάντοτε γὰρ τοὺς πτωχοὺς ἔχετε μεθʼ ἑαυτῶν, ἐμὲ δὲ οὐ πάντοτε ἔχετε·The poor you will always have with you, but you will not always have Me.12“Want toe sy hierdie salfolie op My liggaam gegooi het, het sy dit gedoen om My vir die begrafnis gereed te maak.βαλοῦσα γὰρ αὕτη τὸ μύρον τοῦτο ἐπὶ τοῦ σώματός μου πρὸς τὸ ἐνταφιάσαι με ἐποίησεν.By pouring this perfume on Me, she has prepared My body for burial.13Amen, Ek sê vir julle: waar ook al hierdie evangelie in die hele wêreld verkondig word, sal daar ook gepraat word van wat hierdie vrou gedoen het, tot haar gedagtenis.”ἀμὴν λέγω ὑμῖν, ὅπου ἐὰν κηρυχθῇ τὸ εὐαγγέλιον τοῦτο ἐν ὅλῳ τῷ κόσμῳ, λαληθήσεται καὶ ὃ ἐποίησεν αὕτη εἰς μνημόσυνον αὐτῆς.Truly I tell you, wherever this gospel is preached in all the world, what she has done will also be told in memory of her.”
14Toe het een van die twaalf, wat Judas Iskariot genoem word, na die leierpriesters gegaanΤότε πορευθεὶς εἷς τῶν δώδεκα, ὁ λεγόμενος Ἰούδας Ἰσκαριώτης, πρὸς τοὺς ἀρχιερεῖςThen one of the Twelve, the one called Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests15en gesê: “Wat wil julle my gee, en ek sal Hom aan julle oorlewer?” En hulle het vir hom dertig silwerstukke afgeweeg.aOf: vir hom dertig silwerstukke vasgestel.εἶπεν· Τί θέλετέ μοι δοῦναι κἀγὼ ὑμῖν παραδώσω αὐτόν; οἱ δὲ ἔστησαν αὐτῷ τριάκοντα ἀργύρια.and asked, “What are you willing to give me if I hand Him over to you?” And they set out for him thirty pieces of silver.16En van toe af het hy ’n geleentheid gesoek om Hom oor te lewer.καὶ ἀπὸ τότε ἐζήτει εὐκαιρίαν ἵνα αὐτὸν παραδῷ.So from then on Judas looked for an opportunity to betray Jesus.
17Op die eerste dag van die ongesuurde brode het die dissipels na Jesus gekom en gesê: “Waar wil U hê moet ons vir U voorberei om die pasga te eet?”Τῇ δὲ πρώτῃ τῶν ἀζύμων προσῆλθον οἱ μαθηταὶ τῷ Ἰησοῦ ⸀λέγοντες· Ποῦ θέλεις ⸀ἑτοιμάσωμέν σοι φαγεῖν τὸ πάσχα;On the first day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread, the disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Where do You want us to prepare for You to eat the Passover?”18En Hy het gesê: “Gaan in die stad na ’n sekere persoon en sê vir hom: ‘Die Leermeester sê: My tyd is naby; by jou hou Ek die pasga saam met My dissipels.’ ”ὁ δὲ εἶπεν· Ὑπάγετε εἰς τὴν πόλιν πρὸς τὸν δεῖνα καὶ εἴπατε αὐτῷ· Ὁ διδάσκαλος λέγει· Ὁ καιρός μου ἐγγύς ἐστιν· πρὸς σὲ ποιῶ τὸ πάσχα μετὰ τῶν μαθητῶν μου.He answered, “Go into the city to a certain man and tell him that the Teacher says, ‘My time is near. I will keep the Passover with My disciples at your house.’”19En die dissipels het gedoen soos Jesus hulle beveel het, en hulle het die pasga voorberei.καὶ ἐποίησαν οἱ μαθηταὶ ὡς συνέταξεν αὐτοῖς ὁ Ἰησοῦς, καὶ ἡτοίμασαν τὸ πάσχα.So the disciples did as Jesus had directed them and prepared the Passover.
20Toe dit aand geword het, het Hy saam met die twaalf dissipels aan tafel gelê.Ὀψίας δὲ γενομένης ἀνέκειτο μετὰ τῶν δώδεκα ⸀μαθητῶνWhen evening came, Jesus was reclining with the twelve disciples.21En terwyl hulle eet, het Hy gesê: “Voorwaar, Ek sê vir julle dat een van julle My sal oorlewer.”καὶ ἐσθιόντων αὐτῶν εἶπεν· Ἀμὴν λέγω ὑμῖν ὅτι εἷς ἐξ ὑμῶν παραδώσει με.And while they were eating, He said to them, “Truly I tell you, one of you will betray Me.”22En hulle was baie bedroef en het een vir een vir Hom begin sê: “Dit is tog nie ek nie, Here?”καὶ λυπούμενοι σφόδρα ἤρξαντο λέγειν αὐτῷ ⸂εἷς ἕκαστος⸃· Μήτι ἐγώ εἰμι, κύριε;They were deeply grieved and began to ask Him one after another, “Surely not I, Lord?”23Maar Hy het geantwoord en gesê: “Hy wat saam met My sy hand in die skottel gedoop het, hy sal My oorlewer.ὁ δὲ ἀποκριθεὶς εἶπεν· Ὁ ἐμβάψας μετʼ ἐμοῦ ⸂τὴν χεῖρα ἐν τῷ τρυβλίῳ⸃ οὗτός με παραδώσει·Jesus answered, “The one who has dipped his hand into the bowl with Me will betray Me.24Die Seun van die mens gaan wel heen soos oor Hom geskryf is, maar wee daardie mens deur wie die Seun van die mens oorgelewer word! The Son of Man will go just as it is written about Him, but woe to that man by whom He is betrayed. It would be better for him if he had not been born.”25En Judas, wat Hom oorlewer, het geantwoord en gesê: “Dit is tog nie ek nie, Rabbi?” Then Judas, who would betray Him, said, “Surely not I, Rabbi?” Jesus answered, “You have said it yourself.”
26Terwyl hulle eet, het Jesus brood geneem en, nadat Hy dit geseën het, gebreek en aan die dissipels gegee en gesê: “Neem, eet; dit is My liggaam.”aSommige manuskripte lees: nadat Hy gedank het.Ἐσθιόντων δὲ αὐτῶν λαβὼν ὁ Ἰησοῦς ⸀ἄρτον καὶ ⸀εὐλογήσας ἔκλασεν καὶ ⸂δοὺς τοῖς μαθηταῖς⸃ εἶπεν· Λάβετε φάγετε, τοῦτό ἐστιν τὸ σῶμά μου.While they were eating, Jesus took bread, spoke a blessing and broke it, and gave it to the disciples, saying, “Take and eat; this is My body.”27En Hy het ’n beker geneem en gedank en dit aan hulle gegee en gesê: “Drink almal daaruit,καὶ ⸀λαβὼν ποτήριον καὶ εὐχαριστήσας ἔδωκεν αὐτοῖς λέγων· Πίετε ἐξ αὐτοῦ πάντες,Then He took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you.28want dit is My bloed van die verbond wat vir baie uitgestort word tot vergifnis van sondes.aSommige manuskripte lees: My bloed van die nuwe verbond.τοῦτο γάρ ἐστιν τὸ αἷμά ⸀μου ⸀τῆς διαθήκης τὸ περὶ πολλῶν ἐκχυννόμενον εἰς ἄφεσιν ἁμαρτιῶν·This is My blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.29Maar Ek sê vir julle: Ek sal van nou af beslis nie van hierdie vrug van die wingerdstok drink nie, tot op daardie dag wanneer Ek dit nuut saam met julle drink in die koninkryk van My Vader.”λέγω δὲ ⸀ὑμῖν, οὐ μὴ πίω ἀπʼ ἄρτι ἐκ τούτου τοῦ γενήματος τῆς ἀμπέλου ἕως τῆς ἡμέρας ἐκείνης ὅταν αὐτὸ πίνω μεθʼ ὑμῶν καινὸν ἐν τῇ βασιλείᾳ τοῦ πατρός μου.I tell you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it anew with you in My Father’s kingdom.”
30En nadat hulle ’n lofsang gesing het, het hulle uitgegaan na die Olyfberg.καὶ ὑμνήσαντες ἐξῆλθον εἰς τὸ Ὄρος τῶν Ἐλαιῶν.And when they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.31Toe het Jesus vir hulle gesê: “Julle almal sal in hierdie nag aanstoot neem aan My, want daar is geskrywe: ‘Ek sal die herder slaan, en die skape van die kudde sal verstrooi word.’aLetterlik: aan My struikel.bAanhaling uit Sagaria 13:7.Τότε λέγει αὐτοῖς ὁ Ἰησοῦς· Πάντες ὑμεῖς σκανδαλισθήσεσθε ἐν ἐμοὶ ἐν τῇ νυκτὶ ταύτῃ, γέγραπται γάρ· Πατάξω τὸν ποιμένα, καὶ ⸀διασκορπισθήσονται τὰ πρόβατα τῆς ποίμνης·Then Jesus said to them, “This very night you will all fall away on account of Me. For it is written: ‘I will strike the Shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.’32Maar nadat Ek opgewek is, sal Ek julle voorgaan na Galilea.”μετὰ δὲ τὸ ἐγερθῆναί με προάξω ὑμᾶς εἰς τὴν Γαλιλαίαν.But after I have risen, I will go ahead of you into Galilee.”33Maar Petrus het geantwoord en vir Hom gesê: “Al sal almal aan U aanstoot neem, ek sal nooit aanstoot neem nie.”ἀποκριθεὶς δὲ ὁ Πέτρος εἶπεν αὐτῷ· Εἰ πάντες σκανδαλισθήσονται ἐν σοί, ⸀ἐγὼ οὐδέποτε σκανδαλισθήσομαι.Peter said to Him, “Even if all fall away on account of You, I never will.”34Jesus het vir hom gesê: “Voorwaar, Ek sê vir jou dat jy in hierdie nag, voordat ’n haan kraai, My driemaal sal verloën.”ἔφη αὐτῷ ὁ Ἰησοῦς· Ἀμὴν λέγω σοι ὅτι ἐν ταύτῃ τῇ νυκτὶ πρὶν ἀλέκτορα φωνῆσαι τρὶς ἀπαρνήσῃ με.“Truly I tell you,” Jesus declared, “this very night, before the rooster crows, you will deny Me three times.”35Petrus sê vir Hom: “Selfs al moet ek saam met U sterf, sal ek U beslis nie verloën nie.” Net so het ook al die dissipels gesê.λέγει αὐτῷ ὁ Πέτρος· Κἂν δέῃ με σὺν σοὶ ἀποθανεῖν, οὐ μή σε ⸀ἀπαρνήσομαι. Peter replied, “Even if I have to die with You, I will never deny You.” And all the other disciples said the same thing.
36Toe kom Jesus met hulle by ’n plek wat Getsemane genoem word, en Hy sê vir die dissipels: “Sit hier solank Ek daarheen gaan om te bid.”Τότε ἔρχεται μετʼ αὐτῶν ὁ Ἰησοῦς εἰς χωρίον λεγόμενον Γεθσημανί, καὶ λέγει τοῖς μαθηταῖς· Καθίσατε αὐτοῦ ἕως οὗ ἀπελθὼν ⸂ἐκεῖ προσεύξωμαι⸃.Then Jesus went with His disciples to a place called Gethsemane, and He told them, “Sit here while I go over there and pray.”37En Hy het Petrus en die twee seuns van Sebedeus saamgeneem en begin bedroef en benoud word.καὶ παραλαβὼν τὸν Πέτρον καὶ τοὺς δύο υἱοὺς Ζεβεδαίου ἤρξατο λυπεῖσθαι καὶ ἀδημονεῖν.He took with Him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee and began to be sorrowful and deeply distressed.38Toe sê Hy vir hulle: “My siel is diep bedroef tot die dood toe; bly hier en waak saam met My.”τότε λέγει ⸀αὐτοῖς· Περίλυπός ἐστιν ἡ ψυχή μου ἕως θανάτου· μείνατε ὧδε καὶ γρηγορεῖτε μετʼ ἐμοῦ.Then He said to them, “My soul is consumed with sorrow to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with Me.”39En nadat Hy 'n entjie verder gegaan het, het Hy op Sy gesig geval en gebid en gesê: “My Vader, as dit moontlik is, laat hierdie beker by My verbygaan; tog nie soos Ek wil nie, maar soos U wil.”καὶ ⸀προελθὼν μικρὸν ἔπεσεν ἐπὶ πρόσωπον αὐτοῦ προσευχόμενος καὶ λέγων· Πάτερ μου, εἰ δυνατόν ἐστιν, παρελθάτω ἀπʼ ἐμοῦ τὸ ποτήριον τοῦτο· πλὴν οὐχ ὡς ἐγὼ θέλω ἀλλʼ ὡς σύ.Going a little farther, He fell facedown and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me. Yet not as I will, but as You will.”40En Hy kom na die dissipels en vind hulle aan die slaap, en Hy sê vir Petrus: “So kon julle dan nie een uur saam met My waak nie?καὶ ἔρχεται πρὸς τοὺς μαθητὰς καὶ εὑρίσκει αὐτοὺς καθεύδοντας, καὶ λέγει τῷ Πέτρῳ· Οὕτως οὐκ ἰσχύσατε μίαν ὥραν γρηγορῆσαι μετʼ ἐμοῦ;Then Jesus returned to the disciples and found them sleeping. “Were you not able to keep watch with Me for one hour?” He asked Peter.41“Waak en bid, sodat julle nie in versoeking kom nie; die gees is wel gewillig, maar die vlees is swak.”γρηγορεῖτε καὶ προσεύχεσθε, ἵνα μὴ εἰσέλθητε εἰς πειρασμόν· τὸ μὲν πνεῦμα πρόθυμον ἡ δὲ σὰρξ ἀσθενής.“Watch and pray so that you will not enter into temptation. For the spirit is willing, but the body is weak.”42Weer het Hy vir die tweede keer weggegaan en gebid en gesê: “My Vader, as dit nie kan verbygaan sonder dat Ek dit drink nie, laat U wil geskied.”aSommige manuskripte lees: as hierdie beker nie by My kan verbygaan sonder dat Ek dit drink nie.πάλιν ἐκ δευτέρου ἀπελθὼν προσηύξατο λέγων· Πάτερ μου, εἰ οὐ δύναται ⸀τοῦτο ⸀παρελθεῖν ἐὰν μὴ αὐτὸ πίω, γενηθήτω τὸ θέλημά σου.A second time He went away and prayed, “My Father, if this cup cannot pass unless I drink it, may Your will be done.”43En toe Hy kom, het Hy hulle weer aan die slaap gevind, want hulle oë was swaar.καὶ ἐλθὼν ⸂πάλιν εὗρεν αὐτοὺς⸃ καθεύδοντας, ἦσαν γὰρ αὐτῶν οἱ ὀφθαλμοὶ βεβαρημένοι.And again Jesus returned and found them sleeping, for their eyes were heavy.44En Hy het hulle gelaat en weer weggegaan en vir die derde keer gebid, en weer dieselfde woorde gesê.καὶ ἀφεὶς αὐτοὺς ⸂πάλιν ἀπελθὼν⸃ προσηύξατο ἐκ τρίτου τὸν αὐτὸν λόγον εἰπὼν ⸀πάλιν.So He left them and went away once more and prayed a third time, saying the same thing.45Toe kom Hy na die dissipels en sê vir hulle: “Slaap nou maar verder en rus. Kyk, die uur het naby gekom, en die Seun van die mens word oorgelewer in die hande van sondaars.aOf: Slaap julle nog steeds en rus julle?τότε ἔρχεται πρὸς τοὺς ⸀μαθητὰς καὶ λέγει αὐτοῖς· Καθεύδετε ⸀τὸ λοιπὸν καὶ ἀναπαύεσθε· ἰδοὺ ἤγγικεν ἡ ὥρα καὶ ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου παραδίδοται εἰς χεῖρας ἁμαρτωλῶν.Then He returned to the disciples and said, “Are you still sleeping and resting? Look, the hour is near, and the Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.46Staan op, laat ons gaan! Kyk, hy wat My oorlewer, het naby gekom.”ἐγείρεσθε ἄγωμεν· ἰδοὺ ἤγγικεν ὁ παραδιδούς με.Rise, let us go! See, My betrayer is approaching!”
While Jesus was still speaking, Judas, one of the Twelve, arrived, accompanied by a large crowd armed with swords and clubs, sent from the chief priests and elders of the people.48En hy wat Hom oorlewer, het vir hulle ’n teken gegee en gesê: “Die een wat ek sal soen, dit is Hy; neem Hom gevange.”ὁ δὲ παραδιδοὺς αὐτὸν ἔδωκεν αὐτοῖς σημεῖον λέγων· Ὃν ἂν φιλήσω αὐτός ἐστιν· κρατήσατε αὐτόν.Now the betrayer had arranged a signal with them: “The One I kiss is the man; arrest Him.”49En dadelik het hy na Jesus gegaan en gesê: “Gegroet, Rabbi!” en hy het Hom innig gesoen.καὶ εὐθέως προσελθὼν τῷ Ἰησοῦ εἶπεν· Χαῖρε, ῥαββί· καὶ κατεφίλησεν αὐτόν.Going directly to Jesus, he said, “Greetings, Rabbi!” and kissed Him.50Maar Jesus het vir hom gesê: “Vriend, doen waarvoor jy hier is.” Toe het hulle nader gekom en hand aan Jesus geslaan en Hom gegryp.aOf: Vriend, waarvoor het jy gekom?ὁ δὲ Ἰησοῦς εἶπεν αὐτῷ· Ἑταῖρε, ἐφʼ ⸀ὃ πάρει. τότε προσελθόντες ἐπέβαλον τὰς χεῖρας ἐπὶ τὸν Ἰησοῦν καὶ ἐκράτησαν αὐτόν.“Friend,” Jesus replied, “do what you came for.” Then the men stepped forward, seized Jesus, and arrested Him.51En kyk, een van dié wat by Jesus was, het sy hand uitgesteek en sy swaard getrek, en die slaaf van die hoëpriester geslaan en sy oor afgekap.καὶ ἰδοὺ εἷς τῶν μετὰ Ἰησοῦ ἐκτείνας τὴν χεῖρα ἀπέσπασεν τὴν μάχαιραν αὐτοῦ καὶ πατάξας τὸν δοῦλον τοῦ ἀρχιερέως ἀφεῖλεν αὐτοῦ τὸ ὠτίον.At this, one of Jesus’ companions drew his sword and struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his ear.52Toe sê Jesus vir hom: “Steek jou swaard terug in sy plek, want almal wat die swaard opneem, sal deur die swaard omkom.τότε λέγει αὐτῷ ὁ Ἰησοῦς· Ἀπόστρεψον ⸂τὴν μάχαιράν σου⸃ εἰς τὸν τόπον αὐτῆς, πάντες γὰρ οἱ λαβόντες μάχαιραν ἐν μαχαίρῃ ⸀ἀπολοῦνται·“Put your sword back in its place,” Jesus said to him. “For all who draw the sword will die by the sword.53Of dink jy dat Ek nie My Vader kan vra nie, en Hy sal nou meer as twaalf legioene engele tot My beskikking stel?ἢ δοκεῖς ὅτι οὐ ⸀δύναμαι παρακαλέσαι τὸν πατέρα μου, καὶ παραστήσει μοι ⸂ἄρτι πλείω⸃ δώδεκα λεγιῶνας ἀγγέλων;Are you not aware that I can call on My Father, and He will at once put at My disposal more than twelve legions of angels?54Hoe sou die Skrifte dan vervul word dat dit so moet gebeur?”πῶς οὖν πληρωθῶσιν αἱ γραφαὶ ὅτι οὕτως δεῖ γενέσθαι;But how then would the Scriptures be fulfilled that say it must happen this way?”55In daardie uur het Jesus vir die skare gesê: “Soos teen ’n rower het julle uitgekom met swaarde en stokke om My te vang? Dag vir dag het Ek in die tempel gesit en leer, en julle het My nie gevange geneem nie.aSommige manuskripte lees: Dag vir dag het Ek by julle in die tempel gesit en leer.ἐν ἐκείνῃ τῇ ὥρᾳ εἶπεν ὁ Ἰησοῦς τοῖς ὄχλοις· Ὡς ἐπὶ λῃστὴν ἐξήλθατε μετὰ μαχαιρῶν καὶ ξύλων συλλαβεῖν με; καθʼ ⸀ἡμέραν ⸂ἐν τῷ ἱερῷ ἐκαθεζόμην διδάσκων⸃ καὶ οὐκ ἐκρατήσατέ με.At that time Jesus said to the crowd, “Have you come out with swords and clubs to arrest Me as you would an outlaw? Every day I sat teaching in the temple courts, and you did not arrest Me.56Maar dit het alles gebeur sodat die Skrifte van die profete vervul kon word.” Toe het al die dissipels Hom verlaat en gevlug.τοῦτο δὲ ὅλον γέγονεν ἵνα πληρωθῶσιν αἱ γραφαὶ τῶν προφητῶν. τότε οἱ μαθηταὶ πάντες ἀφέντες αὐτὸν ἔφυγον.But this has all happened so that the writings of the prophets would be fulfilled.” Then all the disciples deserted Him and fled.
Those who had arrested Jesus led Him away to the house of Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and elders had gathered.58Maar Petrus het Hom van ver af gevolg tot by die binnehof van die hoëpriester, en nadat hy ingegaan het, het hy binne by die dienaars gesit om die einde te sien.ὁ δὲ Πέτρος ἠκολούθει αὐτῷ ἀπὸ μακρόθεν ἕως τῆς αὐλῆς τοῦ ἀρχιερέως, καὶ εἰσελθὼν ἔσω ἐκάθητο μετὰ τῶν ὑπηρετῶν ἰδεῖν τὸ τέλος.But Peter followed Him at a distance, right up to the courtyard of the high priest. And he went in and sat down with the guards to see the outcome.59En die leierpriesters en die hele Sanhedrin het valse getuienis teen Jesus gesoek om Hom dood te maak,aSommige manuskripte lees: die leierpriesters en die oudstes en die hele Sanhedrin.οἱ δὲ ἀρχιερεῖς ⸀καὶ τὸ συνέδριον ὅλον ἐζήτουν ψευδομαρτυρίαν κατὰ τοῦ Ἰησοῦ ὅπως ⸂αὐτὸν θανατώσωσιν⸃,Now the chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin were seeking false testimony against Jesus in order to put Him to death.60en hulle het niks gevind nie, hoewel baie valse getuies nader gekom het. Maar later het twee nader gekomaSommige manuskripte lees: Maar later het twee valse getuies nader gekom.καὶ οὐχ εὗρον ⸂πολλῶν προσελθόντων ψευδομαρτύρων. ὕστερον δὲ προσελθόντες δύο⸃But they did not find any, though many false witnesses came forward. Finally two came forward61en gesê: “Hierdie een het gesê: ‘Ek kan die tempel van God afbreek en in drie dae opbou.’ ”εἶπαν· Οὗτος ἔφη· Δύναμαι καταλῦσαι τὸν ναὸν τοῦ θεοῦ καὶ διὰ τριῶν ἡμερῶν ⸀οἰκοδομῆσαι.and declared, “This man said, ‘I am able to destroy the temple of God and rebuild it in three days.’”62En die hoëpriester het opgestaan en vir Hom gesê: “Antwoord jy niks nie? Wat getuig hierdie manne teen jou?”καὶ ἀναστὰς ὁ ἀρχιερεὺς εἶπεν αὐτῷ· Οὐδὲν ἀποκρίνῃ; τί οὗτοί σου καταμαρτυροῦσιν;So the high priest stood up and asked Him, “Have You no answer? What are these men testifying against You?”63Maar Jesus het geswyg. But Jesus remained silent. Then the high priest said to Him, “I charge You under oath by the living God: Tell us if You are the Christ, the Son of God.”64Jesus het vir hom gesê: “Jy het dit gesê; maar Ek sê vir julle, van nou af sal julle die Seun van die mens sien sit aan die regterhand van die Krag en kom op die wolke van die hemel.”λέγει αὐτῷ ὁ Ἰησοῦς· Σὺ εἶπας· πλὴν λέγω ὑμῖν, ἀπʼ ἄρτι ὄψεσθε τὸν υἱὸν τοῦ ἀνθρώπου καθήμενον ἐκ δεξιῶν τῆς δυνάμεως καὶ ἐρχόμενον ἐπὶ τῶν νεφελῶν τοῦ οὐρανοῦ.“You have said it yourself,” Jesus answered. “But I say to all of you, from now on you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of Power and coming on the clouds of heaven.”65Toe het die hoëpriester sy klere geskeur en gesê: “Hy het gelaster! Wat het ons nog getuies nodig? Kyk, nou het julle die lastering gehoor.τότε ὁ ἀρχιερεὺς διέρρηξεν τὰ ἱμάτια αὐτοῦ ⸀λέγων· Ἐβλασφήμησεν· τί ἔτι χρείαν ἔχομεν μαρτύρων; ἴδε νῦν ἠκούσατε τὴν ⸀βλασφημίαν·At this, the high priest tore his clothes and declared, “He has blasphemed! Why do we need any more witnesses? Look, now you have heard the blasphemy.66Wat dink julle?” En hulle het geantwoord en gesê: “Hy is die dood skuldig.”τί ὑμῖν δοκεῖ; οἱ δὲ ἀποκριθέντες εἶπαν· Ἔνοχος θανάτου ἐστίν.What do you think?” “He deserves to die,” they answered.67Toe het hulle in Sy gesig gespoeg en Hom met die vuis geslaan, en ander het Hom geklapτότε ἐνέπτυσαν εἰς τὸ πρόσωπον αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐκολάφισαν αὐτόν, οἱ δὲ ἐράπισανThen they spit in His face and struck Him. Others slapped Him68en gesê: “Profeteer vir ons, Christus, wie is dit wat jou geslaan het?”λέγοντες· Προφήτευσον ἡμῖν, χριστέ, τίς ἐστιν ὁ παίσας σε;and said, “Prophesy to us, Christ! Who hit You?”
69Petrus het buite in die binnehof gesit, en ’n diensmeisie het na hom gekom en gesê: “Jy was ook saam met Jesus die Galileër.”Ὁ δὲ Πέτρος ⸂ἐκάθητο ἔξω⸃ ἐν τῇ αὐλῇ· καὶ προσῆλθεν αὐτῷ μία παιδίσκη λέγουσα· Καὶ σὺ ἦσθα μετὰ Ἰησοῦ τοῦ Γαλιλαίου·Meanwhile, Peter was sitting out in the courtyard, and a servant girl came up to him. “You also were with Jesus the Galilean,” she said.70Maar hy het dit voor almal ontken en gesê: “Ek weet nie wat jy sê nie.”ὁ δὲ ἠρνήσατο ⸀ἔμπροσθεν πάντων λέγων· Οὐκ οἶδα τί λέγεις.But he denied it before them all: “I do not know what you are talking about.”71En toe hy na die poortgebou uitgegaan het, het 'n ander vrou hom gesien en vir dié wat daar was gesê: “Hierdie een was saam met Jesus, die Nasarener.”ἐξελθόντα ⸀δὲ εἰς τὸν πυλῶνα εἶδεν αὐτὸν ἄλλη καὶ λέγει ⸀τοῖς ἐκεῖ· ⸀Οὗτος ἦν μετὰ Ἰησοῦ τοῦ Ναζωραίου·When Peter had gone out to the gateway, another servant girl saw him and said to the people there, “This man was with Jesus of Nazareth.”72En hy het dit weer met ’n eed ontken: “Ek ken die mens nie.”καὶ πάλιν ἠρνήσατο μετὰ ὅρκου ὅτι Οὐκ οἶδα τὸν ἄνθρωπον.And again he denied it with an oath: “I do not know the man!”73Kort daarna het dié wat daar gestaan het, nader gekom en vir Petrus gesê: “Waarlik, jy is ook een van hulle, want ook jou spraak maak jou bekend.”μετὰ μικρὸν δὲ προσελθόντες οἱ ἑστῶτες εἶπον τῷ Πέτρῳ· Ἀληθῶς καὶ σὺ ἐξ αὐτῶν εἶ, καὶ γὰρ ἡ λαλιά σου δῆλόν σε ποιεῖ·After a little while, those standing nearby came up to Peter. “Surely you are one of them,” they said, “for your accent gives you away.”74Toe het hy begin vloek en sweer: “Ek ken die mens nie.” καὶ ⸀εὐθέως ἀλέκτωρ ἐφώνησεν·At that he began to curse and swear to them, “I do not know the man!” And immediately a rooster crowed.75En Petrus het die woord van Jesus onthou wat Hy gesê het: “Voordat ’n haan kraai, sal jy My driemaal verloën.” Then Peter remembered the word that Jesus had spoken: “Before the rooster crows, you will deny Me three times.” And he went outside and wept bitterly.
