And there Abram called on the name of the LORD.
5En ook Lot, wat saam met Abram getrek het, het kleinvee en beeste en tente gehad.וְגַם־לְל֔וֹט הַהֹלֵ֖ךְ אֶת־אַבְרָ֑ם הָיָ֥ה צֹאן־וּבָקָ֖ר וְאֹהָלִֽים׃Now Lot, who was traveling with Abram, also had flocks and herds and tents.6En die land kon hulle nie dra om saam te woon nie, want hulle besittings was baie, en hulle kon nie saam woon nie.וְלֹא־נָשָׂ֥א אֹתָ֛ם הָאָ֖רֶץ לָשֶׁ֣בֶת יַחְדָּ֑ו כִּֽי־הָיָ֤ה רְכוּשָׁם֙ רָ֔ב וְלֹ֥א יָֽכְל֖וּ לָשֶׁ֥בֶת יַחְדָּֽו׃But the land was unable to support both of them while they stayed together, for they had so many possessions that they were unable to coexist.7En daar was twis tussen die herders van Abram se vee en die herders van Lot se vee. En die Kanaäniete en die Perissiete het toe in die land gewoon.וַֽיְהִי־רִ֗יב בֵּ֚ין רֹעֵ֣י מִקְנֵֽה־אַבְרָ֔ם וּבֵ֖ין רֹעֵ֣י מִקְנֵה־ל֑וֹט וְהַֽכְּנַעֲנִי֙ וְהַפְּרִזִּ֔י אָ֖ז יֹשֵׁ֥ב בָּאָֽרֶץ׃And there was discord between the herdsmen of Abram and the herdsmen of Lot. At that time the Canaanites and the Perizzites were also living in the land.8Toe sê Abram vir Lot: “Laat daar tog nie twis wees tussen my en jou nie, en tussen my herders en jou herders nie, want ons is manne, broers.”aOf: want ons is familie van mekaar.וַיֹּ֨אמֶר אַבְרָ֜ם אֶל־ל֗וֹט אַל־נָ֨א תְהִ֤י מְרִיבָה֙ בֵּינִ֣י וּבֵינֶ֔יךָ וּבֵ֥ין רֹעַ֖י וּבֵ֣ין רֹעֶ֑יךָ כִּֽי־אֲנָשִׁ֥ים אַחִ֖ים אֲנָֽחְנוּ׃So Abram said to Lot, “Please let there be no contention between you and me, or between your herdsmen and my herdsmen. After all, we are kinsmen.9Is die hele land nie voor jou nie? Skei jou tog van my af. As jy na links gaan, gaan ek na regs; en as jy na regs gaan, gaan ek na links.”הֲלֹ֤א כָל־הָאָ֨רֶץ֙ לְפָנֶ֔יךָ הִפָּ֥רֶד נָ֖א מֵעָלָ֑י אִם־הַשְּׂמֹ֣אל וְאֵימִ֔נָה וְאִם־הַיָּמִ֖ין וְאַשְׂמְאִֽילָה׃Is not the whole land before you? Now separate yourself from me. If you go to the left, I will go to the right; if you go to the right, I will go to the left.”10En Lot het sy oë opgehef en die hele streek van die Jordaan gesien, dat dit alles waterryk was, voordat die HERE Sodom en Gomorra verwoes het, soos die tuin van die HERE, soos die land Egipte, in die rigting van Soar.aLetterlik: soos jy na Soar toe kom.וַיִּשָּׂא־ל֣וֹט אֶת־עֵינָ֗יו וַיַּרְא֙ אֶת־כָּל־כִּכַּ֣ר הַיַּרְדֵּ֔ן כִּ֥י כֻלָּ֖הּ מַשְׁקֶ֑ה לִפְנֵ֣י׀ שַׁחֵ֣ת יְהוָ֗ה אֶת־סְדֹם֙ וְאֶת־עֲמֹרָ֔ה כְּגַן־יְהוָה֙ כְּאֶ֣רֶץ מִצְרַ֔יִם בֹּאֲכָ֖ה צֹֽעַר׃And Lot looked out and saw that the whole plain of the Jordan, all the way to Zoar, was well watered like the garden of the LORD, like the land of Egypt. (This was before the LORD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah.)11En Lot het vir hom die hele streek van die Jordaan gekies, en Lot het na die ooste toe getrek; en hulle het geskei, elkeen van sy broer af.aOf: van die ooste af.וַיִּבְחַר־ל֣וֹ ל֗וֹט אֵ֚ת כָּל־כִּכַּ֣ר הַיַּרְדֵּ֔ן וַיִּסַּ֥ע ל֖וֹט מִקֶּ֑דֶם וַיִּפָּ֣רְד֔וּ אִ֖ישׁ מֵעַ֥ל אָחִֽיו׃So Lot chose the whole plain of the Jordan for himself and set out toward the east. And Abram and Lot parted company.12Abram het in die land Kanaän gewoon, en Lot het in die stede van die streek gewoon en sy tente tot by Sodom opgeslaan.אַבְרָ֖ם יָשַׁ֣ב בְּאֶֽרֶץ־כְּנָ֑עַן וְל֗וֹט יָשַׁב֙ בְּעָרֵ֣י הַכִּכָּ֔ר וַיֶּאֱהַ֖ל עַד־סְדֹֽם׃Abram lived in the land of Canaan, but Lot settled in the cities of the plain and pitched his tent toward Sodom.13Maar die manne van Sodom was sleg en groot sondaars teenoor die HERE.וְאַנְשֵׁ֣י סְדֹ֔ם רָעִ֖ים וְחַטָּאִ֑ים לַיהוָ֖ה מְאֹֽד׃But the men of Sodom were wicked, sinning greatly against the LORD.
14En die HERE het vir Abram gesê, nadat Lot van hom geskei het: “Hef tog jou oë op en kyk van die plek waar jy is, na die noorde en na die suide en na die ooste en na die weste,aLetterlik: noordwaarts en Negev-waarts en ooswaarts en seewaarts.וַֽיהוָ֞ה אָמַ֣ר אֶל־אַבְרָ֗ם אַחֲרֵי֙ הִפָּֽרֶד־ל֣וֹט מֵֽעִמּ֔וֹ שָׂ֣א נָ֤א עֵינֶ֨יךָ֙ וּרְאֵ֔ה מִן־הַמָּק֖וֹם אֲשֶׁר־אַתָּ֣ה שָׁ֑ם צָפֹ֥נָה וָנֶ֖גְבָּה וָקֵ֥דְמָה וָיָֽמָּה׃After Lot had departed, the LORD said to Abram, “Now lift up your eyes from the place where you are, and look to the north and south and east and west,15Want die hele land wat jy sien, sal Ek aan jou gee en aan jou nageslag tot in ewigheid.aOf: aan jou saad.כִּ֧י אֶת־כָּל־הָאָ֛רֶץ אֲשֶׁר־אַתָּ֥ה רֹאֶ֖ה לְךָ֣ אֶתְּנֶ֑נָּה וּֽלְזַרְעֲךָ֖ עַד־עוֹלָֽם׃for all the land that you see, I will give to you and your offspring forever.16En Ek sal jou nageslag maak soos die stof van die aarde, sodat, as iemand die stof van die aarde kan tel, ook jou nageslag getel sal word.וְשַׂמְתִּ֥י אֶֽת־זַרְעֲךָ֖ כַּעֲפַ֣ר הָאָ֑רֶץ אֲשֶׁ֣ר׀ אִם־יוּכַ֣ל אִ֗ישׁ לִמְנוֹת֙ אֶת־עֲפַ֣ר הָאָ֔רֶץ גַּֽם־זַרְעֲךָ֖ יִמָּנֶֽה׃I will make your offspring like the dust of the earth, so that if one could count the dust of the earth, then your offspring could be counted.17Staan op, loop die land deur in sy lengte en in sy breedte, want aan jou sal Ek dit gee.”ק֚וּם הִתְהַלֵּ֣ךְ בָּאָ֔רֶץ לְאָרְכָּ֖הּ וּלְרָחְבָּ֑הּ כִּ֥י לְךָ֖ אֶתְּנֶֽנָּה׃Get up and walk around the land, through its length and breadth, for I will give it to you.”18En Abram het sy tente verskuif en gekom en by die terebinte van Mamre, wat by Hebron is, gaan woon; en hy het daar 'n altaar vir die HERE gebou.aOf: die groot bome van Mamre.וַיֶּאֱהַ֣ל אַבְרָ֗ם וַיָּבֹ֛א וַיֵּ֛שֶׁב בְּאֵלֹנֵ֥י מַמְרֵ֖א אֲשֶׁ֣ר בְּחֶבְר֑וֹן וַיִּֽבֶן־שָׁ֥ם מִזְבֵּ֖חַ לַֽיהוָֽה׃ פSo Abram moved his tent and went to live near the Oaks of Mamre at Hebron, where he built an altar to the LORD.
